On Friday night, the White Sox will pay a visit to Houston. The teams will play a three-game series this weekend, and it’s going to be a lot of fun. Both of them are atop their respective division and will be looking to create a little bit of separation. And though injuries have played a big part for both sides, it has been a lot of fun so far.
Houston under Dusty Baker has continued to do a lot of winning. Sure, they get booed often, and some of the winning feels pretty wrong after all the sketchiness of the trash can scandal. But they have been doing this cleanly, especially in an era where players are being full-body checked mid-inning for the sticky stuff. All they do is win, and it’s been interesting.
The White Sox, on the other hand, are often winning in spite of a lot of things. Most notably, a manager who is really out of touch with the modern game. Tony La Russa has not been a smashing success, and a lot of the players have had things to say about him to the media. But they are in the first place, doing a whole lot of winning here and there.
As this series plays out, home runs and high offensive output will be the name of the game.
Betting Odds & Lines: The spread is set at HOU -1.5. The HOU moneyline is -130, while CHW is set at +120.
Sox Seeking Key Victory
In first place now, the White Sox are smiling from ear to ear. They have been able to overcome losing a number of key guys for the long term, the wins continuing to pile up. They have put plenty of talent together, as things have been looking good. This is a group that is trying to win big now.
The batting average has been way down, but Jose Abreu has been crushing the ball. He has knocked in 66 runs already, with his totals continuing to rise. Leury Garcia has been a very good utility man for the squad, having already brought in 39 runs.
If they want to pick up a win in the series opener, CHW is going to need to knock a few balls out of the park.
Astros Looking to Pick Up Series Opening Win
A victory would be really nice for Houston coming out of the All-Star break. The game between the Red Sox and Yankees was canceled on Thursday. And that being the case, no games have been played since Tuesday. The extra day off means that the return will be more exciting for the watch-them-all fans.
Jose Altuve is only batting .278 but has managed to knock 20 homers out of the park, with 55 runs batted in. Yuli Guerriel has continued to be a big part of the success, while Yordan Alvarez has a team-best 56 RBI’s.
Should a win be awarded to Houston, it would come from them logging 10+ hits.
