The Cincinnati Bearcats will take on the Indiana State Sycamores on Tuesday in the Quarterfinals of the NIT. The Cincinnati Bearcats, out of the Big 12 come into the game with a 22-14 record on the season. The Bearcats have tournament wins over San Francisco by a single point and Bradley by 17 points.
For Indiana State, they are looking to win their 30th game of the season. After going 27-6, they have won two NIT games so far. The Sycamores beat SMU by 9 on Wednesday, and Minnesota by 12 on Sunday.
The Indiana State Sycamores are -3.5 over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Tuesday.
Bearcats Looking to Advance on the Road
For Cincinnati, after finishing near the bottom of the Big 12, they were knocked off by Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament. That came after they beat Kansas in the first game of the tournament. In the NIT, they were able to beat San Francisco by a single point, and then smoked Bradley by 17 on Saturday.
In the win over the Braves, Jizzle James was great, as he scored a career high 25 points. Also in the game Dan Skillings scored 20 points, while Simas Lukosius scored 17. In the win over San Francisco, Lukosius was the man with 28 points, while Skillings went for 16.
On the season, Skillings is the top score for the Bearcats. He is scoring 12.9 points per game. Second is Lukosius with 11.4, while Day Day Thomas is third with 10.4 per game. The Bearcats started the season with seven straight wins. Their first loss of the season came to city rival Xavier on December 9th.
Big Season for Indiana State
For the Indiana State Sycamores, it has been an outstanding season. Indiana State lost early season games to Alabama and then Michigan State. Those were their only two losses. The Sycamores best win was over Drake midway through the season. That is ultimately what kept them out of the NCAA Tournament.
The loss to Drake in the Missouri Valley title game sealed their fate. In that game, Jayson Kent led all five scorers in double digits with 22. On the season, Kent is fourth on the team, scoring 13.6 points per game. The big name on campus for Indiana State has been Robbie Avila. He scored 17.1 points, and ripped down nearly 7 rebounds per game.
Avila had a monster game on February 28th, as he scored 35 points and recorded 8 rebounds in that game. Lately, he is closer to 13 points per game, and 6 rebounds. The Sycamores used 23 points from Ryan Conwell in their most recent win over the Big Ten’s Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Cincinnati Tops Indiana State
The Indiana State Sycamores story is a good one. This is a team that is playing with a ton of confidence, and has a boat load of talent. Cincinnati, out of the Big 12 though, is going to make sure they show the Sycamores what power conference basketball is.
