Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns Betting Preview

After the Bengals and Browns picked up losses to open their season, they each look to week two against one another to pick up the first victory. They will meet in Cleveland on Thursday for a primetime showdown after the first short week of the season.

Cincinnati had no reason to lose to the Chargers on Sunday. They were down late, and rookie Joe Burrow led them on an impressive drive down the field in the waning moments. And it came down to a 30-yard field goal attempt from Reggie Bullock. It was way off, and it cost the team victory in a game where they trailed by just one point.

On the other hand, Cleveland may as well have not even shown up to their first game of the year. They lost 38-6 to a dominant Ravens team, never showing even a hint that they belonged on the same field. It’s too early to overreact, but with how much this team has struggled in recent years, that type of performance isn’t what you want to start a year with.

Both teams look to avoid an 0-2 start.

ODDS:

The spread favors the Browns by 6 points. The over/under is set at 43.

Burrow Seeks First Win

All in all, it was a solid debut for Joe Burrow on Sunday. He wasn’t dominant, but he showed good chemistry with the receivers and was fantastic on the game’s final drive. We’d be talking a little differently about the team if Bullock had made his kick, but you can’t change what’s already happened.

Joe Mixon is running the ball well after signing his lucrative extension, and the team seems to be in a better place than last year. 0-16 was in the cards for a while in 2019, but that does not seem like the case with this season.

Burrow will seek to show Baker Mayfield who the better #1 pick is in Thursday’s showdown.

Browns Look to Avoid 0-2 Start

Other than a blip year in 2007 when they went 10-6, the existence of the Browns in the past two decades has been rather depressing. But, they have built a winner in the last few drafts and offseasons, so it’s important to not overreact to their Week 1 defeat at the hands of the Ravens.

Odell Bckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry should both be able to get going, with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt holding it down at the running back spot. The loss of David Njoku to IR may hurt this week, but they have other options to fill in for him that can get it done. Don’t forget about Myles Garrett dominating on the defensive line.

It’s almost better that they come in off a short week, so it’s less time to think about their poor performance in Week 1.
