The Cleveland Browns can achieve their playoff dream for the first time in nearly two decades by picking up a few more wins. They will face the New York Giants in primetime as they find themselves in a critical position. A loss would sting significantly and can move them behind the Ravens, who they were a few games ahead of recently.
They hope to see another big Baker Mayfield performance after he lit up Baltimore and Tennessee in the past couple of games. And Nick Chubb continues to tear it up on the ground.
This is a stellar offense, and it’s too bad that we won’t see Odell Beckham Jr. against the Giants. That aspect of the game would have been cool.
The Giants have been up and down throughout the year. The four-game winning streak ended last week, and another loss would be huge.
With Jason Garrett (has COVID-19) unable to call plays, former Browns coach Freddie Kitchens will do so. And once again, we’ll see Colt McCoy under center, also facing one of his former teams.
ODDS:
The spread has the visiting Browns favored by 6.5 points. The over/under is set at 44.
Browns Aiming for Tenth Win
In 2007, we saw Cleveland go 10-6 with the fiery Derek Anderson leading them at quarterback. But, that team was unable to secure a playoff spot.
A tenth win here would go a long way toward putting the Browns in the playoffs for the first time since 2002. Mayfield is their best signal-caller in a long time. Definitely worth the #1 pick.
This team is pretty one-sided, though. The defense has been horrid for much of the season, with injuries taking their toll at a few skill positions. It’s basically been Myles Garrett sacking the quarterback, only for a corner to give all the yards back on the very next play.
They are great with takeaways, but limiting opponents’ production is always a struggle. We’ll see if they can stop McCoy from a career day.
Giants Seek Critical Home Win
If the Giants cannot win this week, with Seattle being shocked by the Washington Football Team, the season could be in jeopardy. The Giants were 2-0 against Washington this year, so if they can win while Washington also does, first place is theirs. Any other result will make their playoff chances a bit tough.
The franchise has suffered multiple setbacks since the incident on the boat before the playoff game. Most of the Giants roster opted to party on a boat the weekend of their game four years ago.
And they got destroyed in the game, seeing their season end. New York has had no success since this happened.
They continue to try and put it past themselves, but even though most of those guys are gone, it’s still relevant. Can they win in primetime with a backup quarterback and a backup coordinator?
