Another night of NFL preseason means we are another day closer to seeing the Cleveland Browns play regular-season football. This has got to be their most anticipated team since the final one coached by Bill Belichick’s group before the relocation to Baltimore. The expectations are going to be high for these guys, who have talent at just about every position. They finally found a leader at the QB spot, and they will be very good.
Tampa Bay, on the other hand, is hoping to turn it around after luring Bruce Arians out of (a brief) retirement. Byron Leftwich is going to serve as his OC for a unit which has to perform. Jameis Winston has been here since 2015 and still not yet led them to the postseason. This is a team that needs to perform positively this year to try and end this long drought. It has been a long time coming for the Bucs to be a competitive team.
The spread for this game favors the Browns by three points (CLE -3). The over/under is set at 42.5
Browns Continue To Put It Together
The Browns’ starting roster for Week 1 is all but set, so it is about filling out the depth chart with these next few performances. They have an offense and receiving corps that many teams often dream of, and a QB who is not afraid to voice his opinion. A real vocal leader, Baker Mayfield is trying to take this team and take them to the playoffs for the first time since the relocation. Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi could be this year’s feel-good story, a player who slept outside the team facility at the start of camp, running a kick back to the house in a preseason game, and proving he has good hands.
They had an impressive draft, and we should be looking to the likes of Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki to perform big in this game. They did not draft much offense, as the focus was geared toward defense.
Bucs Trying To Figure It Out
We know that Jameis Winston is going to be the starting QB, while Ryan Griffin and Blaine Gabbert (yes he is still in the league) will be competing for the backup job. The RB battle between Peyton Barber and now rising-sophomore Ronald Jones II rages on, while Andre Ellington was brought in by Bruce Arians, his former coach in Arizona, to potentially get some carries. Their receiving corps will need guys to step up after the departures of DeSean Jackson and Adam Humphries.
Inside linebacker Devin White was a first-round pick this year, and we should look for him on the opening drive tonight. They drafted three defensive backs in the first three rounds, so be on the lookout for Jamel Dean, Mike Edwards, and Sean Murphy-Bunting.
Browns Pick Up The Win
Make sure you bet on Cleveland tonight! A preseason victory is coming for Cleveland, which will move one step closer to achieving its goal as a winning team, at least in the preseason.
