The Cleveland Guardians and the Oakland Athletics will meet on Wednesday for their third game of a three-game set. Oakland has played well in this series, losing in extra innings to the Guardians on Monday night and then finding a way to beat them on Tuesday night.
Although Oakland was expected to be one of the worst teams in baseball this year, they’ve played a bit better than most were expecting to start the season and that’s impressive for a team that had the expectations they did.
This game could be a bit different, however, as it would make sense if Cleveland does find a way to get the series win. The Guardians opened up the season with an impressive series win against the Seattle Mariners and are hopeful that they can get their second straight series win to start the season.
The Guardians come into this one at -130 on the moneyline and +130 on the run line.
Will Cleveland Win the Series?
Cleveland was expected to be one of the best teams in baseball this season, and at the very least, a team that was expected to win the AL Central. Although it’s going to be tough for them to complete that task as the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox look to be above-average teams this season, they have a chance.
These are games that they need to win, as the Oakland Athletics are not going to be a good team when the season ends. Although it’s early in the season, and teams typically play better early on, this is the perfect opportunity for the Guardians to get a much-needed win. It’s tough to say that some of these games matter too much at the beginning of the year, but as we’ve seen in the past, all of these games matter when the standings start getting tight.
Hunter Gaddis is going to make just his fourth start in his major league career on Thursday night and that could be good or bad news for Cleveland. They clearly think that they have something with this kid, so he should be able to come out and succeed.
Oakland is Playing Better than Expected
It’s been a rough few years for the Oakland Athletics, and while that’s not expected to get much better anytime soon, Oakland has played well to start the season. They found a way to take a game against the Los Angeles Angels and have now competed well against the Cleveland Guardians. If Oakland can continue finding ways to score runs, this team can be somewhat decent.
Their inability to score runs is typically why they don’t succeed, as even the old Oakland teams that used to be good struggled offensively.
They’re also throwing a youngster on Thursday in the form of Kyle Muller. He threw well for Oakland in their game against the Angels, throwing five innings and only allowing one earned run.
Cleveland Guardians vs Oakland Athletics Betting Preview Prediction
While this game could be interesting because both sides are throwing a young arm, taking the Guardians to win this game doesn’t seem like a bad idea here. The Guardians realize that all of these games matter early on and there’s no better time to start building a division lead than beating a team like the Oakland Athletics.
