For the second season in a row, Colorado State and Colorado will open up their seasons against one another. The Rams are coming off a disappointing campaign in which they finished just 3-9, including dropping their final five games. Their final win came against New Mexico back on Oct. 13, so they are hungry to get it going again. After losing to their in-state rival 45-13 last season, they hope things can be different.
The Buffaloes of Colorado were a great story to begin the season. They won their first five games and looked to be on their way to a sensational campaign. Looks can be deceiving though, as they would go on to drop their final seven games of the year to still finish with a losing record. After knocking off Arizona State on Oct. 6, they would not taste victory again.
The spread for tonight’s game favors Colorado by 13.5 points (COLO -13.5), and the over/under is set at 56.
Rams Look To Start Strong
After the long losing streak to close last year out, the Colorado State Rams will get the chance to start fresh tonight. The 3-9 record they had last year can be a thing of the past. If only they can let it. Head coach Mike Bobo has his team focused and ready to play and hopes to see a different outcome this time through. They are led by junior quarterback Collin Hill, looking to come through in a big way. Hill was the backup to K.J. Carta-Samuels last year and threw for 1,387 yards, seven TDs and seven interceptions in 202 pass attempts.
If there is one area that must be improved for the Rams to pick up wins, it would be the pass rush. No single player on this team recorded more than three sacks last year, so opposing quarterbacks felt minimal pressure whenever the Rams tried to apply it. That will be important tonight.
Buffaloes Try To End Skid
The 5-0 start to last season is just a distant memory now. It is time to get back to it and start from scratch. Steven Montez is set to be the starting QB for one more go-round after throwing 19 TDs and nine interceptions in his junior year, finishing with 2,849 yards. Alex Fontenot carried the ball just 11 times all of last season but comes into this year as a starter. They hope that his fresh legs can churn out yards in all different situations.
Their defensive star, Mustafa Johnson, returns after leading the way with 7.5 sacks last year. He and Nate Landman are both forces up front and hard to slow down. They’ll look to keep it that way with tonight’s game and all throughout the season.
Montez Leads Colorado To Victory
Make sure that all of your wagers favor the Buffaloes of Colorado. They are ready to absolutely dominate in this season opener.
