The Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs will resume their rivalry on Friday night at Guaranteed Rate Field. This rivalry has been nicknamed the Crosstown Classic, and this series is always highly competitive and exciting. The Cubs took two out of three games from the White Sox earlier this season at Wrigley Field.
The Chicago Cubs come in with an 89-63 record, which is the best in the National League. The Cubs lead the Milwaukee Brewers by 2.5 games in the National League Central and have an elimination number down to eight. The Chicago White Sox are 59-92, but have shown signs of improvement heading into next season. The Chicago Cubs are -151 over the White Sox in this game.

Quintana Starts Against Former Team
Cubs pitcher Jose Quintana will make the start against his former team in this game. Quintana was acquired by the Cubs last July and has been solid for them since coming to the North Side. He is 13-10 with a 3.95 earned run average through 29 starts this season, but has been pitching much better of late. Quintana has given up two or fewer earned runs in his last six starts, and should fare well against his former team.
Cubs second baseman Javier Baez has been the offensive star for the Cubs this season and could win the National League MVP this season. Baez has blasted 33 home runs and driven in 107 runs to lead the team, and has continued to play his stellar defense. Veteran utility man Ben Zobrist is batting .312 this season and has an outside chance to win the National League batting title. The Cubs offense has been producing a ton of runs of late.
Lopez Takes Mound For Sox
Young right-hander Reynaldo Lopez will make the start for the White Sox on Friday night. Lopez will be making his 31st start of the season in this game and has struggled for much of the season. He has a 6-9 record to go along with a 4.05 earned run average this season. He was brilliant in his last start giving up just four hits and no runs through 7 innings pitched.
The White Sox will be without their offensive star, Jose Abreu in this game. Abreu suffered an infection in his right thigh, and was just released from the hospital on Wednesday night. Abreu leads the White Sox with a .265 batting average to go along with 78 runs batted in. The White Sox offense will struggle without their leader in the lineup.
Cubs Beat Rivals
You can throw out the records when these two rivals play each other as they don’t ever seem to matter. The Cubs are the much better team this season, but the White Sox would love nothing more than to play the role of spoiler in this series. All three games should be highly competitive, but the Cubs just have too much talent in this game. The Cubs will win the series opener against the White Sox behind a stellar outing from Jose Quintana. Bet the Chicago Cubs -151 in this game.
