The 2022 NBA Playoffs continue on Tuesday, May 10th, at Footprint Center with Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals between Dallas and Phoenix.
Each club has won on their home court, tying the series at 2-2. The Suns are 6-point home favorites, while the Mavericks are +210 moneyline dogs with a total of 213 points.
Mavericks Look to Steal Game on the Road
The Dallas Mavericks’ defense carried them through a pair of home games against the Phoenix Suns. Following a 103-94 win in Game 3, the Mavs defeated the Suns 111-101 as 3-point underdogs in Game 4.
In Game 4, Dallas dominated Phoenix from beginning to end, outscoring them 37-25 in the first quarter. The Mavericks hit 20 triples on 45.5 percent shooting and only had 11 turnovers. Luka Doncic led the way with 26 points and 11 assists, while Dorian Finney-Smith had a career-high 24 points on a 66% 3-point shooting performance.
On Sunday, the Mavericks got much production from their bench, with Jalen Brunson contributing 18 points and four assists, while Maxi Kleber contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Brunson had a big game in Game 3, scoring 28 points and dishing out five assists. In the first two games of the series, he had only 22 points.
Suns Seek Series Advantage at Home
In each of their first two games against the Mavericks, the Phoenix Suns scored more than 120 points. The Suns haven’t looked like the same squad averaging 97.5 points on the road in the last two games, and Chris Paul’s slump is a big reason for that.
In Game 4, CP3 had five points, seven assists, and seven turnovers after scoring 12 points, four assists, and seven turnovers in Game 3. Last Sunday, the 12-time All-Star only lasted 23 minutes before fouling out with six fouls.
On Sunday, Devin Booker put up 35 points and seven assists, but it wasn’t enough. Deandre Ayton had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, but Mikal Bridges only had six points on 3-for-9 shooting. The Suns shot 46.4 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from beyond the arc (9-for-25).
Mavericks/Suns Betting Prediction
At home, Phoenix has dominated offensively, and they’ll look to continue that in Game 5. In back-to-back games at the American Airlines Center, they were held to a combined total of 195 points. The key to Tuesday’s game is for them to be more cautious with the basketball and to make more quality shots.
The Suns should perform considerably better at home than they did in their previous two games at Dallas, scoring over 120 points in both contests. Chris Paul will be revved up to play in front of his home crowd, and the Suns have plenty of weapons to cope with Dallas’ defense.
The Mavericks, on the other hand, needed eight triples from Dorian Finney-Smith to get to 110 points, and Luka Doncic had to play flawlessly to compete with the Suns. Covering a 6-point spread isn’t going to be easy, but I’ll take the hosts and the points because I think the Suns will win.
Betting Pick: Suns -6
