Gearing up for the NBA All-Star break, there are a few games to clean up before the weekend. An intriguing Western Conference matchup headlines Wednesday night when the Dallas Mavericks go on the road to take on the Denver Nuggets.
With the addition of Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks have not yet won a game with both Irving and Luka Doncic on the floor together. No matter how much the two score, the Mavericks have come up on the losing end.
A matchup with Denver on their home court will never be pleasant, as the Nuggets have the best home record in all of the NBA.
Between the altitude and the roster being fully healthy, the Nuggets have one of the biggest advantages you can find in the league.
Nikola Jokic is quietly still one of the front-runners to win the MVP award again, but we will see how the rest of the season shakes out.
Before tip-off, the spread for this game favors the Nuggets on their home court over the Mavericks at -6.5.
Working through the kinks of their new duo
Both Irving and Doncic are two of the most naturally gifted scorers that the league has ever seen. In their most recent loss, they were able to combine for almost 70 points.
Getting a win in this game would be a huge morale booster, as the team would love to see some positives going into the extra long break.
Surprisingly, just from the eye test alone, their defense hasn’t seemed to have been affected as much as anyone thought. Dorian Finney-Smith was a key rotation player in that regard but it has not changed much.
The talent is there and always has been, so hopefully, they can pull through to get the dub.
Another year as the best player in the league
Every year the talking heads of sports love to try and figure out who the best player in the world is or who should even be considered for a top-five list.
The fact that Jokic is getting ignored some weeks with the best record in the NBA and the numbers he puts up is baffling.
With everyone healthy, scoring for the Nuggets has never been easier and they show continually why they are a true threat to win the title.
Matching up with the Mavericks should be a breeze for the big man, as Dallas does not really have anyone that can keep up with him.
Mavericks @ Nuggets Betting Prediction
Both of these Western Conference teams would love to see a win happen just before the all-star break, however there can be only one winner.
Despite the small two-game skid, the Mavericks have played very well. They just need to get themselves over the hump.
This won’t be the game to do it. The Nuggets are too good on their home court and consistently blow opponents out of the water whenever they come to town.
Take Denver as the favorite at -6.5 to take care of business in this game.
