Too often have teams cheated us from a thrilling matchup this season like the 76ers did on Monday night when they were on the road against the Denver Nuggets.
On Wednesday night, there is another chance for high-powered star action when the Philadelphia 76ers host the Dallas Mavericks who have been reeling more than any team in the league.
After dropping a two-game series to the Charlotte Hornets last week, the Mavericks are shooting themselves in the foot as they are on the outside looking into the Western Conference playoff picture.
Not everything can be blamed on the acquisition of Kyrie Irving, but it certainly removed some of the depth of the team and the defense that got them far in the playoffs last season.
Matching up with the 76ers could potentially be a nightmare if Joel Embiid decides to return to the court for this game. As of right now, the 76ers are favored at home over the Mavericks at -5.5.
Piling up the losses since the trade deadline
With both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic dealing with some injuries late in the season, the Mavericks are now in a position where they could miss the postseason all together.
As good of a year as Doncic is having, this would be a colossal failure by the franchise who seemed to be on the rise as they got better each season.
Now playing catch-up, they might get lucky with Embiid and James Harden missing extended time to nurse some nagging injuries. Both remain game time decisions before the tip-off.
If one or both are able to play, the Mavericks are going to be in trouble as they have no one who will be able to stay in front of either star.
Load managing to end the season
After one of the best seasons the franchise has had in recent memory, the 76ers are now trying to find a way to keep all of their players healthy to go into the postseason.
Embiid, depending on how many games he ends up missing, might have forgone his ability to win the MVP award, but it won’t matter if they make a deep postseason run.
With all things being equal, the 76ers are one of the scariest teams in the league, and they have all the tools necessary to beat any squad. They will be catching the Mavericks at an opportune time on Wednesday night.
Mavericks @ 76ers Betting Prediction
As this game brings two teams to the table with more questions than answers, we’ll see who actively suits up for this game.
If Embiid and Harden play, the 76ers should take this one at home in no contest, barring a transcendent Doncic game.
That is pretty much the only thing the Mavericks have the ability to count on at this point of the season: whether or not Luka will be able to pour in 50 points to give them a chance at a win.
Take the 76ers in this matchup on their home court at -5.5.
