The NBA is buzzing all this week, and the first blockbuster deal has sent Kyrie Irving packing his bags to join Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
These Mavericks will be in their first stint of action on Monday night when they go on the road to take on the Utah Jazz in a Western Conference duel.
Losing Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie out of their rotation makes for a Mavericks team that is going to be completely focused on their offense.
Defense seems to be going out of the window entirely, but they finally secured their second star to play hand-in-hand with Doncic, and that gives them a little bit of a better chance when they face the top teams in the conference.
Luka recently sat out of their Saturday matchup, so we will see if he makes the jump to play in this game or they will wait to join him with Irving later.
All of this talk about the Mavericks, but it is the Jazz who are favored on their home court at -7.5.
Making the first splash in the NBA
Trade deadlines in the NBA are unlike any other, and the Mavericks let the first Jenga block fall in acquiring Kyrie Irving.
Now the question is going to be more about their depth, as they essentially gave up two starter-caliber players for one all-star.
The wings on this team are not really anything crazy, and once both Irving and Doncic are on the bench, they are not going to have much of a scoring output.
Still, these are the types of trades that keep your homegrown all-star happy and ready to make a commitment to the long-term with the franchise.
Keeping their playoff hopes alive with their first-time all-star
The Jazz have been the talk of the town this season and absolutely stunned the NBA with the way they have carried themselves.
Once thought to be on a mission for the number one overall draft pick, they are now trying to hold on and maintain a spot in the NBA Playoffs.
Their roster, and their record, puts them in a position where they might be a team to overhaul their players before Thursday’s deadline. They are currently sitting at 27-27.
With a few more weeks to go before the all-star break, they will try and do everything they can to ensure that they are moving towards at least a play-in game.
Mavericks @ Jazz Betting Prediction
This game is all about who is going to take the floor for the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic is going to be questionable before the tip-off and sometimes newly acquired players can’t take the floor the very next day.
With so many question marks, it is safer to just roll with the Jazz as the home team and bet on them to hold their ground.
They have a solid squad and will win as the favorite over the Mavericks at -7.5.
