Denver Broncos vs New York Giants Betting Preview

Two teams that endured losing seasons in the 2020 NFL Season will try to get 2021 off on the right foot as the Denver Broncos visit the New York Giants. Oddsmakers have made the Broncos 3-point favorites on the road. The game also has an over/under of 41.5 points.

Time could be running out for Denver coach Vic Fangio, who waited so long to become a head coach but could be on the hot seat in the 2021 NFL Season. The Broncos are just 12-20 under Fangio over the past two seasons. Coming off a 5-11 season and a last-place finish last year, the Broncos are desperate for a fast start in 2021.

There’s almost as much pressure on Joe Judge, who coached a 6-10 campaign in 2020 despite the Giants finishing just one game out of first place in the NFC East. That division looks as wide open as ever, giving the G-Men a path to the playoffs. But that means New York will have to hold serve at home this year.

The Daniel Jones Experience

While Judge may have some leeway heading into the season for the New York Giants, it could be now or never for Daniel Jones, who enters his third pro season. While Jones didn’t lead the league in fumbles last year the way he did as a rookie, he didn’t take much of a step forward in 2020. Jones had just 11 touchdowns to 10 interceptions last season, so he needs to take a huge step forward this season.

To their credit, the Giants have done a nice job of surrounding him with plenty of capable playmakers, especially if Saquon Barkley is able to get on the field in Week 1. However, the Broncos loaded up on their secondary during the offseason, which means Jones might have to throw through some tight windows against the Denver defense. New York’s offensive line also remains a huge question mark, with both Von Miller and Bradley Chubb healthy to start the season, giving the Broncos two great outside pass-rushers.

Teddy Ballgame

The Denver Broncos are officially Teddy Bridgewater’s team after the former first-round pick beat out incumbent Drew Lock during the preseason. Bridgewater is hoping to hit the ground running with plenty of talented wide receivers around him, most notably last year’s first-round pick Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton, who missed most of the 2020 season due to injury. The Broncos also have high hopes for their running back tandem of Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon, although there are some lingering concerns about the Denver offensive line.

Defensively, the Giants have a defensive line that could trouble Denver’s O-line with Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence. They will also feel good about their chances one-on-one with Denver’s receivers with cornerbacks James Bradberry and Adoree Jackson. But with the Giants being tough against the run last year, the Broncos may have no choice but to take their chances against the New York secondary.

Gonna Get Ugly

Taking the under on 41.5 points might be the best bet in this game. It’s hard to trust Jones and the Giants scoring a lot of points while Bridgewater will be solid but won’t light up the scoreboard against a promising New York defense. Both teams will be lucky to get to 20 points, so stick with the under in this game.
