The Lions head to Green Bay to face the Packers, looking to avoid an 0-2 start. Both of these teams played horrible defense en route to week 1 losses. Detroit allowed the 49ers to pour on 41 points, their comeback effort proving futile by the game’s end. And on the other side, GB put in only three points during a 35-point shellacking versus New Orleans.
With a new coach/QB pairing, Detroit is hoping to be better. Jared Goff went to a Super Bowl just a few years ago and showed flashes during the fourth-quarter rally. They are thin at several positions, though, and losing star DB Jeff Okudah for the season so early hurts tremendously. Injuries are a killer in this sport.
Green Bay, meanwhile, is going to have to forget what happened last weekend. This is a team that was the NFC runner-up in 2020, and they looked nothing like themselves. The game could serve as one of two things. The first would be a wake-up call that they need to get their act together. And the second could be a reality check, that they aren’t who they think they are.
Betting Odds & Lines
The spread for the game is one-sided, set at GB -12. The over/under is 49 points. The GB moneyline is -675, while the DET moneyline is +475.
Lions Seek First Win in Dan Campbell Era
With a tough coach like Dan Campbell, Detroit should be fired up every week. The man inspires with his speeches and interesting language. He is somebody that can motivate, so perhaps he struck all the right chords in practices leading up to the game.
The Lions always find ways to lose to teams like GB, having gone just 8-24 against winning teams in the Matt Stafford era. That has to change in the Goff era, or things will not go over well. This franchise hasn’t won a playoff game in an awfully long time, and it’s time for the culture reset.
If they want to take down GB, they’ll need to run the ball effectively with Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swift. And just feed TJ Hockenson whenever possible.
Pack Seek First Win
Considering how rare Packers losses were in the regular season over the prior two years, the panic level should be at about a five after last week’s abysmal performance. A 38-3 drubbing at the hands of the Saints and new QB Jameis Winston was not to be expected.
Rodgers played some of the worst football we have ever seen from him. As he stopped cutting his hair, it also seemed he stopped understanding how to throw the football. Sure, it’s only been one week. But it was terrifying for Packers fans to see their guy playing like that after a tumultuous offseason that was filled with internal strife.
They need to win this game, and it all starts with the Aaron’s.
Lions Keep It Close
The game will be closer than expected, keeping viewers engaged until the end.
