A trip to the Super Bowl is on the line Sunday evening as the Detroit Lions play at the San Francisco 49ers. This is the NFC title game. A season ago, the 49ers lost in this game to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Detroit Lions won the NFC North with their 12-5 mark on the season. The Lions are the three seed, and beat the Rams in the first weekend of action, and then took down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend.
For the San Francisco 49ers, they are top seed out of the NFC. The 49ers went 12-5 during the regular season as well. San Francisco took the wildcard weekend off, and then needed all 60 minutes in their 24-21 win over the Packers last weekend.
The San Francisco 49ers are the big favorites in this game at home. The 49ers are listed at -7 over the Lions. The total for this affair is set at 50.5 points.
Big Season for Goff in Detroit
Not enough discussion is being had about the season Jared Goff had under center for Detroit. The signal caller has been terrific, completing more than 67% of his passes this season. Goff finished with 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns during the regular season, wth just 12 interceptions. Goff has thrown for over 500 yards with 3 touchdowns in his two postseason games.
Amon Ra-St. Brown is a monster for the Lions. When it’s not going to him, former Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta is getting the ball. Those two combined for over 2,400 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns during the regular season.
When the ball is not in the air, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are shoving the ball down opponents throats. Gibbs rushed for 945 yards on the season with 10 touchdowns, while former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery rushed for over 1,000 and 13 touchdowns on the season.
49ers Have Injury Concern
For the 49ers, their biggest question mark is going to be the status of Deebo Samuel. He injured his shoulder in the win over the Packers, and left the game. He is questionable for this game. He has been a massive part of the 49ers offense. Samuel caught 7 touchdowns and rushed in 5 on the season.
Christian McCaffrey continues to be the workhouse for the 49ers. He rushed 272 times on the season, and picked up 14 touchdowns. In the win over the Packers, McCaffrey got 17 carries and caught 7 passes. He ended up with 128 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.
San Francisco has been the class of the NFC. The 49ers started with five straight wins, before losing three in a row. After winning six straight, the 49ers sealed the deal for the top spot in the NFC despite their Week 16 loss to Baltimore.
Super Bowl Trip on the Line
Here we go. The final spot in the Super Bowl up for grabs. The Detroit Lions have never been to the Super Bowl before. The city of Detroit loves this team, loves their head coach and their quarterback. This is a young and talented team. This is a team that will play hard for 60 minutes.
The 49ers have some questions. Is Purdy that guy in a big game? Is Deebo Samuel going to play? Can Christian McCaffrey continue to sustain the heavy workload he has been given all season long. We are going to shock you here and take the Detroit Lions. Not just to cover the +7, but to win the game outright. Our final bet for this game is the Detroit Lions +260 on the moneyline. Celebrate, Detroit!
