The College Football Playoff is still very much in the picture for the Georgia Bulldogs, who will need a win on Saturday when they visit the Auburn Tigers to try and keep the dream alive. The Bulldogs’ defense has been stifling from week one, ranking No. 2 in the nation, allowing a mere 10.1 points per game, 90 in all. Offensively, their 33 points per game don’t exactly blow your mind, but it is enough for a team that dominates on the other side of the football.
Auburn, on the other hand, is still in prime bowl position ahead of this big-time SEC matchup between the elites. Auburn is outscoring opponents by a 33-17 total per game under Gus Malzahn and not looking quite as great as its opponents. It has not been the best year for them with true freshman Bo Nix, but a No. 13 ranking with him running the show is not the worst thing and does set them up well for next year. This week will be tough for them, so let’s see what they are made of.
The visiting Bulldogs are three-point favorites for Saturday’s showdown, while the over/under is set at 42. If you’re betting on the moneyline, it’s GA -140 and AUB +120.
Georgia Trying To Stay In Top Four
The only loss this season for the Bulldogs was a game they had expected to win against South Carolina, but, of course, the Gamecocks had other plans. They may be ranked No. 1 right now if not for that tough loss. Anyway, here they are trying to stay perfect against nationally-ranked opponents. Jake Fromm has fired 13 TD passes on the year along with three picks, while D’Andre Swift has rushed for 921 yards and seven scores. We’ll see how they perform against a hungry Tigers defense.
They have seen 29 different players record at least half of a tackle for loss, a stat that is really mind-blowing when you think twice about it, with no one guy (Azeez Ojulari leads with 4.5 sacks, 4.0 TFL) having more than four total. They do it as a group.
Auburn Looks To Upend Bulldogs
This will not be an easy matchup for the Tigers, but they need to be prepared. If they can win out and dominate along the way, the College Football Playoff committee could opt to move them up several spots. All of the pressure is going to fall on Bo Nix, yet to truly break out to this point in the year. He has 12 TDs to six picks with 1,798 yards. He has a solid but not great RB to hand it off to in JaTarvious Whitlow, who has 553 yards and seven scores on 117 rushing attempts despite being limited with a knee injury. He’s hopeful to play in this one after missing two of the last three games.
Twenty-four different guys have a TFL here, with four guys having five or more. Look for Marlon Davidon and KJ Britt to apply a whole lot of pressure out there.
