This has been yet another year for the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs in which they are ranked among the best teams in the country. They rank as the 26th-highest-scoring team in the nation, while also ranking just fifth in points against. Kirby Smart has done a very good job, with the exception of losing to unranked South Carolina. But it’s funny how it goes. The Bulldogs go and beat nationally-ranked teams and fall to the Gamecocks of the world because they don’t prepare enough.
Dan Mullen and his No. 6 Florida Gators, meanwhile, have kept it rolling and could find themselves in the College Football Playoff if they can escape with a win in this contest. They have the No. 46 scoring offense in the nation and will be looking to climb higher on that list. They rank No. 12 in points allowed, giving up south of 16 a game and will be trying to limit Jake Fromm and Co. to as little production as possible. Four different QBs have thrown a pass for the Gators this season, but it is clearly on Kyle Trask to lead.
The Bulldogs are set as 6.5-point favorites in this annual clash played in Jacksonville, Fla., while the over/under is set at 45. The Florida moneyline is +190, while it is -240 for the Bulldogs.
Needing A Big Win
This is going to be an exciting battle, with the Bulldogs hoping to gain an edge on the Gators. Fromm has impressed thus far, completing over 70 percent of his passes while throwing for nine touchdowns and three picks on the year. He isn’t very mobile, and he knows that he has to be effective as a pocket passer. D’Andre Swift is averaging 6.8 yards per carry, gaining 752 yards and scoring seven touchdowns in 2019. He has added 13 receptions and another score through the air. George Pickens leads the team with 318 receiving yards.
The Bulldogs do not have a great pass rush, as Azeez Ojulari is leading the way with 3.5 sacks for the year. They have three picks and have recorded four fumbles in all. Defense will have to be the calling card for Georgia to have a shot.
Still In The Mix
Currently a half-game ahead of the Bulldogs in the SEC East, the conference championship game is within reach for the Gators. They are going to have to be perfect the rest of the way and really take it to Georgia. Those on the CFP rankings committee would view any sort of win as a chance at moving up for Florida, though, as it is listed as a pretty heavy underdog while playing in its home state. Trask has thrown 14 TD passes to just four picks. Lamical Perine and Dameon Pierce have combined for 719 rushing yards and seven scores.
Seven different players have multiple sacks for the Gators, led by four from Jonathan Greenard, who has been a force.
