The second game at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday is the Georgia Bulldogs against the Seton Hall Pirates. This is the semi final of the NIT, with the winner taking on either Indiana State or Utah in the Finals.
The Georgia Bulldogs, out of the SEC, were fourth in their bracket. The Bulldogs are 20-16 on the season. Georgia is coming off a thrilling win on the road at Ohio State on March 26th.
For the Seton Hall Pirates, they were one of the top teams left out of the big dance. The Pirates are 23-12 on the season, and finished fourth in the Big East. The Pirates beat UNLV on March 27th to get to this game.
Seton Hall is -3.5 over Georgia in this game on Tuesday!
Road Warriors in the Bulldogs
When the Georgia Bulldogs lost to Florida in the second round of the NIT, they were not sure their season would continue on. They were 17-16 at the time. The Bulldogs got the NIT invite, and have downed Xavier, Wake Forest and Ohio State. The final two were on the road.
During the three game winning streak, the Bulldogs have scored 75 points per game, but more importantly allowed just right at 70 per game. In the win over Ohio State, Noah Thomassson was terrific, as he scored 21 points in the win. Frank Anselem-Ibe recorded a double double in the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Georgia started the season with a loss, and was 4-3 heading into December. The Bulldogs dropped games to Oregon, Miami and Providence. In December, the Bulldogs went 6-0, and they actually won their first two SEC games over Missouri and Arkansas. Their worst stretch was six straight losses that spanned from January 27th until they finally won again on February 21st.
Pirates Seeking Fourth Straight
Seton Hall lost to St. John’s in the first round of the Big East Tournament. The Pirates still felt they had enough for the big dance, with 20 wins, but it was not meant to be for them or the Storm, who had beat them. Once NIT action started, they downed Saint Joseph, North Texas and UNLV.
During the three game winning streak, they are scoring over 80 points per game. The defense has been pretty sharp, with right around 65 points allowed per game. The Pirates scored 47 points in the second half of the win over UNLV.
Seton Hall saw all five starters score double digits in the win. The leading score was Al-Amir Dawes, with 21 points. Kadary Richmond recorded a double double in the game, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Seton Hall started the season 5-4 with non conference losses to USC, Iowa, Baylor and Rutgers.
Pirates Too Much for Bulldogs
Two power five conference teams with a team in the NIT Final Four. Both the SEC and Big East have a team in the NCAA Final Four. Both teams are going to come into this game battle tested. Both are playing good basketball as of late too.
But, in the end, the Seton Hall Pirates are just the better team. The Pirates feel like they should have had a chance in the NCAA Tournament, and would love to get to the title game, and a shot at Indiana State or Utah. In the end, we are taking Seton Hall -3.5 over Georgia here.
Enjoy the game and best of luck!
