It will be a fun matchup on Thursday when the Warriors pay a visit to Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. These teams have beautifully run offenses, and other teams have struggled to slow them down of late. To have two guys like Steph Curry and Jamal Murray handling things means that they are each in good hands.
Most folks wrote off golden State after starting 0-2 with a pair of blowout losses. But that’s what happens when you play the Nets and Bucks right off the bat.
Since then, they have won six of nine games and have been showing that they are pretty formidable. A win against Denver would be great not only for morale but for proving a point that they’re legit.
Jokic has been putting up numbers we haven’t seen since the days of Oscar Robertson and his times of averaging a triple-double. Russell Westbrook averaged a triple-double with OKC, but his totals still didn’t match the criteria at this early juncture of the season. For Jokic to be nearly seven-feet tall and doing so nightly is mind-boggling.
ODDS:
The spread for the game is set at Denver -4.5. The over/under is set at 228.5.
Dubs Looking to Make Some Noise
Picking up a win over the Nuggets would take the Warriors and put them right into the headlines. It’s a very strong unit and one that will continue to fight until the final whistle.
It’s important to remember how they played without Draymond Green versus with him. He changes the game on both ends of the floor, always seeming to make the smart play.
It has also been cool to see Curry’s brother-in-law, Damian Lee, win the team two games in the clutch. He had opportunities to play big minutes last year, and he’s responded this season with some unbelievable moments. He and Curry have both played well in tight games, giving the team a pair of options.
Kelly Oubre is starting to play better, and Andrew Wiggins has suddenly become a top-tier shot-blocker.
Nuggets Look to Take Care of Business
All the Nuggets would like here is a win and would like not to keep it close. They started Bol Bol for the first time in their last game, and he showed them a few good things.
But it’s hard to say when exactly he’ll be ready to shoulder a consistent role on a title contender. It seems he still has a lot to learn.
Jokic and Murray, meanwhile, have been playing very well. JaMychal Green has given the bench an excellent lift since getting healthy. He can shoot the ball well and is a terrific defender, and was a very underrated signing by a team that needed his services.
Jokic versus Wiseman in the early stages of this game will be fun. But he will likely be covered by Green in crunch time.
Nuggets Win at Home
Denver will pick up a win. Both teams will have identical 6-6 records at night’s end.
