A renewed rivalry in the Western Conference will take place Wednesday night when the Golden State Warriors are on the road to take on the Portland Trail Blazers.
What would have been a matchup of two of the best point guards in the league will not be cut at the heels of the news of the injury to Steph Curry, who will miss significant time.
It is an unfortunate set of circumstances for Golden State, as their young players have been unable to take the step forward that their franchise was hoping for.
In the coming weeks, it is going to be up to the leadership of Klay Thompson and Draymond Green to rally the troops to be competitive each night.
The Trail Blazers are having their own issues this season, and may very well be involved in the trade deadline and get a little frisky.
With Curry out of the lineup, the Trail Blazers are favored at home over the Warriors at -3.5.
Filling the hole with Steph Curry out of the lineup
This Warriors team has been entirely based on Steph Curry and his ability to space and open up the floor for everyone else.
His presence off the court, even back when Kevin Durant was on the team, made life for the rest of the players much more difficult. It doesn’t matter if he is having a bad shooting night or not.
Moving forward, Jordan Poole is going to see an increased workload and showcase why he was worth the large extension he received in the off-season.
Otherwise, their young players have been unable to prove their value thus far, but this may be the chance that they need in order to get their big break.
Another goes by with Damian Lillard
Ever since Lillard was drafted into the league, the Trail Blazers have always been fringe contenders and never in the top teams.
This season is no different. Their roster makes it difficult most nights to receive consistency from anyone not named Damian Lillard, and they were just beaten down by the Milwaukee Bucks.
Hoping to bounce back from their loss, they are catching Golden State at the right time, however they haven’t been impressive lately either.
With all of the question marks surrounding the role players, maybe the Trail Blazers will be active during the trade deadline, but it remains to be seen.
Warriors @ Trail Blazers Betting Prediction
It becomes far too easy to discount the Warriors when they are missing Curry in their lineup. The other night saw Thompson go for over 40 points and pull out a vintage performance.
More of this coming from the Warriors will be on the horizon, and maybe someone like Jordan Pool will take the next turn at one of these big time scoring bursts.
Over the years, the Warriors have had the Trail Blazers number, and despite being the underdog in this game, they will get the win on the road. Take the Warriors at +3.5.
