The Duke Blue Devils are at home on Tuesday, as they take on the Pride of Hofstra. The Hofstra Pride, members of the Colonial Athletic Association, come into the game with 6-3 record. The Pride are coming off a road loss at Saint Louis on Saturday.
For Duke, they are looking to stay on track. After falling to 5-3 on the season, the Blue Devils scored 80 points in a blowout win at home over Charlotte. The Blue Devils are 0-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Duke is listed as big favorites in this game. The Blue Devils are -15.5 over the Pride. The total for this game is set at 145.5.
Pride of Hofstra
The Pride went 25-10 a season under Speedy Claxton. This will be the third season for Claxton. They were the co-champions in the regular season of the CAA, but were upset by Charleston in the quarterfinals. They eventually went to the second round of the NIT.
This season, the Pride have dropped two out of three away from home. The losses on the road came at George Washington and Saint Louis, while they were able to win at Iona. The Pride have home wins over South Florida and Buffalo, of note.
In the nine games this season, the Pride are scoring 80.4 points per game. Hofstra has one of the top guards in the conference, with Tyler Thomas. He is playing nearly 37 minutes per game, and scoring just shy of 24 points per game. Jaquan Carlos has been great with the ball all season, averaging just under 7 assists per game.
After this game, the Pride will take on Norfolk State on December 16th. Hofstra will then head to Vegas and take on UNLV just before Christmas.
Duke Blue Devils 2023-2024
This is the second season for head coach Jon Scheyer. A season ago, the Blue Devils went 27-9, and 14-6 in ACC play. Duke won the ACC Tournament. After beating Oral Roberts in the first round of the big dance, they were downed by Tennessee.
The Blue Devils are led this season by Kyle Filipowksi, and his 17.3 points per game. Filipowski is making 50% of his shots on the season as well. Next for the Blue Devils has been guard Tyrese Proctor, with 10.3 points per game and 4.5 assists per game.
The Blue Devils are scoring 80.8 points per game, and allowing 65.9. In the three losses, Duke is averaging just 71 points per game. The Blue Devils will take on Baylor on December 20th and Queens December 30th. Duke will then get back to Atlantic Coast Conference play in January 2nd against Syracuse.
Blue Devils Smack Pride
Look for Duke to continue their trend of blowout wins. We expect this game to be much like the December 9th win over Charlotte. Duke plays well, and is far and away the more talented team here. The Blue Devils get into the 80’s and threaten to win the game by 25 points. The final margin is closer to 20, but it is more than enough. Bet the Duke Blue Devils -15.5 over the Hofstra Pride on Tuesday. Enjoy the game and good luck!
