The Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles are connecting for Game 2 of their three-game series on Wednesday. The Astros picked up a monster win on Tuesday with a run in the 8th inning and four more in the 9th inning. The win for Houston pushed them to 65-49 on the season. For the Orioles, the loss dropped them to 70-43.
The Baltimore Orioles come into the game as the favorite. The Orioles are listed at -125 over the Astros. The total for this game is listed at nine runs.
Starting Pitchers for Wednesday’s Tilt
Cristian Javier will get the baseball for Houston on Wednesday. Javier has struggled through much of the season but still holds a 7-2 record. The 26-year-old has not won a game since June 3rd.
In his last six starts, Javier has allowed 25 runs over 29 innings. Javier is coming off an outing against the Yankees, where he allowed four hits and three runs in 4.2 innings.
For the Baltimore Orioles, Jack Flaherty will get the start. The former St. Louis Cardinal, who was traded at the deadline, will make his second start with the Orioles. Overall, he is 8-6 with a 4.28 earned run average.
Flaherty has struck out 114 batters in 115.2 innings this season. His first start with Baltimore was good; he picked up a win at Toronto, going six innings and allowing four hits.
Tuesday’s Game
The Orioles got the offensive party started in the bottom of the first place with a Ryan Mountcastle 14th home run on the season. It was a two-run shot and got them off to an early lead.
The Orioles added more with an Adley Rutschman home run later in the game. It was the catcher’s 15th of the season. Rutschman hit leadoff for Baltimore, and he is hitting .273 on the season.
Houston saw starting pitcher Framber Valdez struggle a little in the loss, a game after his no-hitter. The Astros, after trailing 5-0 and then 6-1, chipped away. Houston got five RBIs from Kyle Tucker in the win, including the go-ahead grand slam in the 9th inning.
Tucker now leads the team with a .297 batting average and 82 runs batted in. He also has 20 home runs on the season. Alex Bregman also had two hits, and Jeremy Pena had three in the win.
What’s Next for Both Teams
The Astros will wrap up this series on Thursday before heading home and take on the Angels. After that, they take a quick trip to Miami before coming back home and host the Mariners and Red Sox for a seven-game home stand.
The Baltimore Orioles will wrap this series up on Thursday before the Orioles head to Seattle, San Diego, and Oakland for nine games. The next time the Orioles will be home is on Tuesday, August 22nd, as they host the Toronto Blue Jays. Baltimore is looking to stay ahead of a Tampa Bay team that seems to be resurging after big-time struggles in July.
Wednesday’s Bet
Jack Flaherty is going to be a star for the Baltimore Orioles down the stretch of the season. His stuff is really good, and he is energized for a postseason run.
The former Cardinal looked great in his first start. Look for Jack to keep the Houston batters off balance and give himself a win.
The Baltimore offense should be able to get to Javier in this one. Bet the Baltimore Orioles as the small favorite. Take Baltimore -125 over Houston on Wednesday.
