Though they have taken a few losses early on in the year, the Houston Texans have looked as legitimate as any over the past few years of the Deshaun Watson era. He is slinging it as well as any other QB in the NFL at this point, and it could spell some real trouble Sunday for the Kansas City Chiefs secondary, which has been unable to stop much this year. Watson has been torching teams with better defenses, so the Chiefs had best come prepared.
The Chiefs are looking to bounce back after taking a loss to the Colts in a game where Patrick Mahomes was battling through an ankle injury but was doing all that he could to try and get his team into position to win. Kansas City has had various injuries to receivers and running backs but will be hoping that it can eventually have everyone healthy so it can put all of the pieces together. The Chiefs have Super Bowl aspirations once more, and the hope is that the Texans won’t serve as a roadblock.
The spread for the battle is set at Kansas City -4, with the over/under of 55.5 being the highest for any matchup this season.
Texans Look To Make Some Noise
Coming off a performance last week that had fantasy owners yearning for more, Will Fuller will be coming to catch as many passes from Watson once again. They just kept scoring touchdown after touchdown, with hardly any incomplete throws. The running game for the Texans is still a work in progress, but it is something Indianapolis used well in defeating Kansas City last week. If the Texans can establish a power-run style with Carlos Hyde, it could unlock a new dimension for their offense this week.
JJ Watt has gone back to doing what he does, sacking QBs left and right, picking up four through the first five games. Whitney Mercilus has picked up five, the two of them forming quite the dynamic duo up front and hoping to land a few hits on Mahomes.
Chiefs Need To Get Back On Track
After taking the loss to Indianapolis, the Chiefs will be hoping to avoid consecutive defeats to AFC South foes. Gardner Minshew gave them a run for their money in the opening week of the season, too. They had never scored less than 25 points in a Mahomes start prior to being held to just 13 by the Colts last week.
The Chiefs ran for just 36 yards, the second-lowest total of the season. They will need to LeSean McCoy to create some separation back there and really take off and find something. Mahomes should come in healthier than last week, but if they can get play-action going, it will be hard to stop them.
The pass-rush has not been great this year, but it is an area where they are always improving. They will likely be without Chris Jones, putting pressure on the other guys.
