The Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones are set to square off in Ames on Saturday in a College Football rivalry game. The Hawkeyes and Cyclones are both coming into the game with a 1-0 record. Iowa started quick but slowed up, but still beat Utah State in their opener 24-14.
For Iowa State, they smashed Northern Iowa in their opener. The Iowa Hawkeyes are the favorites in this game. You can grab Iowa at -4 over Iowa State, with a total of 36.5 points. The last time these two teams played, the Cyclones won 10-7 a season ago.
Hawkeyes Looking to Big Ten Title Game
There is no doubt that Kirk Ferentz and his staff at Iowa are looking to grab that Big Ten West title for the final time before realignment moves the conference around. The Hawkeyes, along with Wisconsin, are odds on favorites to win it. Iowa has Western Michigan at home next week before a trip to Penn State in Week Four. Iowa also visits Wisconsin this season.
Cade McNamara threw two touchdowns in his Iowa debut. The former Michigan Wolverine will be the key to the offense. McNamara was nursing a sore quad but was cleared to play. His first touchdown pass went to Seth Anderson, while Erick All caught the second. The third touchdown of the game for the Hawkeyes came in the fourth quarter, where Kaleb Johnson went three yards.
The Hawkeyes on the defensive side saw the Aggies throw the ball around for more than 210 yards in the game. Utah State added 116 yards on the ground. If Iowa is not going to be better offensively, they better get those numbers improved for this one.
Cyclones Seeking Repeat
The Iowa State Cyclones win a season ago over Iowa was one of the best moments for the program. It was an ugly win, but it got the job done. Now, they are heading to Jack Trice Stadium, where they are seeking two in a row. Iowa State will take its first road trip next week as they take on the Bobcats of Ohio.
In the win, the Cyclones got an interception for the first score of the game. Jeremiah Cooper went 58 yards to give them a quick 7-0 lead. It was 14-0 at the end of one, as Rocco Becht punched it into the end zone. Becht also threw a 14-yard pass for a touchdown to Tyler Moore in the second quarter to make it 20-0.
Becht needed just 13 passes in the game. He finished with 113 yards and two touchdowns. The ground game for the Cyclones finished with 134 yards on 27 carries. The defense for the Cyclones caused two interceptions from Panthers quarterback Theo Day.
Cyclones Repeat as Winners
Just not enough trust in the Iowa Hawkeyes to score when they need to. Iowa got off to such a great start, and many felt the offense was going to be getting on track. Then, the rest of the game happened, and the offense still is not very good.
Look for Iowa State to outscore them in this game. The final score prediction for this game is the Iowa State Cyclones 20-17 over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday.
