The Jags head to Cincy to face off with the Bengals on Thursday. And who would have thought that the Bengals could start 3-1 because that is where they would stand if they are able to come away with a win in this one. The success they have been having is great to see after a few putrid years for the franchise.
In just year two of Joe Burrow, they have already begun to figure things out. Having a guy like Ja’Marr Chase to throw the ball to makes a major difference, as we have been seeing from Week 1 until now. He’s catching deep TD passes every week, proving to be worthy of being a top-six draft pick last year. That duo is helping the team thrive in a major way.
As for Jacksonville, adding Trevor Lawrence didn’t seem to do much for the prospects of winning. They have turned the over often on offense, and the defense isn’t doing too much to help its cause. That 109-yard Jamal Agnew missed FG TD run back to end the first half last week was pretty exciting, though. But they still lost the game, so it is just another highlight in another L.
Betting Odds & Lines
Thursday night’s spread is currently set at CINCY -7.5. The over/under is 46 points. The Jaguars’ moneyline is +270, while the Bengals’ moneyline is -342.
Jags Seeking First Win
Changing the coaching staff and selecting a new QB does not necessarily equate to wins. The most surprising version of this has to be the current Jaguars team, 0-3 and not looking so good. Urban Meyer is not looking too hot during his first NFL tenure, while Trevor Lawrence has not been the guy they expected to this point. A lot of work has to be done.
They are giving James Robinson the ball a lot less than last year, which is hurting the run game. They aren’t getting enough from their top receivers either and have some things to improve on. They did bring in Dan Arnold to play TE, so maybe he can give them a boost of sorts.
At the end of the day, this team is still in transition. They need to find a way.
Bengals Aim for 3-1
2-1 is a terrific start for a team that has been very bad for two seasons now. The Bengals are looking much better, and they could even compete for a playoff spot. They took care of the Steelers last week and also have a win against Minnesota. They narrowly lost to the Bears but nearly got it done in that one too.
Joe Mixon is averaging 95 rushing yards per game. Chase has 11 catches for 220 yards and four touchdowns already through the three games. The rookie wideout has been exceptional and is by far their most explosive playmaker since A.J. Green.
The D already has ten sacks through three games, and Logan Wilson has three INT’s. Right place, right time.
Cincy Wins
The Bengals will get the W over the Jags, improving their mark on the year to 3-1.
