On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Chargers will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in a highly anticipated matchup that could decide the division. The Chiefs come in at 11-2 and are in first place in the AFC West and the Chargers come in at 10-3 and are in second place in the AFC West. The winner of this game will have an upper hand in the division race. Earlier this season, the Chiefs beat the Chargers in Los Angeles 38-28.

Chargers Look to Keep Victories Coming
The Chargers are coming off close victory against the Cincinnati Bengals last week. The Chargers were expected to blow the doors off the Bengals but that was not the case. The Bengals had a chance to tie the game up with two minutes to go but the two-point conversion attempt came up short. Phillip Rivers completed 19 of 29 passes for 220 yards and one score. Austin Ekeler led the backfield with 66 yards and a touchdown on just 15 carries. Keenan Allen was the leading receiver as he hauled in 5 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Melvin Gordon is listed as questionable and Austin Ekeler is out for this game, so keep track of Gordon’s status closer to kickoff.
The Chiefs are coming off an incredible comeback victory against the Baltimore Ravens last week in which they won 27-24 in overtime. The Chiefs trailed by 7 with just four minutes to go in regulation when they got the ball back, and Patrick Mahomes orchestrated an impressive drive to tie the game up with just under a minute left. The Chiefs would go on to win the game in overtime. Superstar Patrick Mahomes went 35 for 53 for 377 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Spencer Ware led the backfield with 75 yards on 15 carries but is doubtful for the game against the Chargers. Tyreek Hill torched the Ravens for 139 yards on 8 catches.
Strong Offense Will Be Key
The Chargers have been solid offensively all season long, led by veteran quarterback Phillip Rivers. They are 4th in the league in points per game with 28 and 6th in total yards per game with 391. The numbers are minuscule in comparison to Kansas City, so they will need a lot of help from the defense to stay in this one. The defense has been good as well, as it ranks 7th in the league allowing just 21 points a game and 8th in the league allowing only 332 yards per game.
The Chiefs have relied solely on their offense to win games all season long and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon. The offense ranks first in points per game with 36 as well as yards per game with 438. The part that is ugly for the Chiefs is the defense. The defense ranks 28th in the league allowing 27 points a game and 30th in yards, allowing 410 per game. The offense should be able to score at will, so it will come down to whether the defense can get stops or not.
Chargers vs. Chiefs Prediction
The Chiefs come in at -3.5. Arrowhead Stadium will be rocking for this one with the division on the line. This will be a shootout with not many defensive plays being made. Although the Chargers have the better defense, it won’t matter. The Chiefs will put up a ton of points like they always don in front of the home crowd and the defense will get just enough stops in this game for them to win by a touchdown. Take the Chiefs -3.5 and the over.
