The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks will start a series in the desert on Tuesday.
The Diamondbacks have been in free fall for much of the season half of the season. Arizona has now dropped six straight games and 8 out of their last 10.
A team that was in first for nearly the entire first half of the season – now 8.5 games back in the division. Arizona comes into the game with a 57-56 record and a 28-28 mark at home.
For the Dodgers, things are going well right now, with three out of four wins in San Diego. Los Angeles is now 65-46 on the season and starting to pull away for first place in the National League West.
The Dodgers are favorites in this game. Los Angeles is listed at -162, while the Diamondbacks come in at +136. The total for this game on Tuesday is 9.5 runs.
Diamondbacks Seeking Offense
The Diamondbacks cannot find their bats. In the six-game losing streak, they have scored just a combined 11 runs. The Diamondbacks have fallen out of the Top 10 in runs scored, with 532 on the season. The team batting average was also Top 10 but has dropped to 12th, with a .254 on the season.
Rookie Corbin Carroll has hit a bit of the rookie wall, with just four hits in 20 at-bats this month. Carroll has not hit a home run since back on July 23rd in Cincinnati. The Diamondbacks’ offense is led by Ketel Marte and Christian Walker. Walker has 23 home runs on the season, while Marte is hitting .283.
Arizona will turn to Brandon Pfaadt in this game. The 24-year-old has really struggled this season. He comes into the game with an 0-5 record and a 7.11 earned run average.
This will be his 10th start of the season. Despite that, though, his last outing was his best. He went seven innings and struck out seven while allowing just one run. He took a 1-0 loss in that game to the Giants.
Dodgers Looking to Keep Status Quo
After winning 13-7 on Monday, the Dodgers moved 4.5 games ahead in first place and have won six out of their last seven games. The Dodgers have scored 56 runs in their last six wins while just eight runs in their last three losses. The big blow was the Mookie Betts grand slam in the fourth inning. Betts has 31 home runs and 75 runs batted in on the season.
The Dodgers picked up a big win on Sunday Night Baseball. Freddie Freeman launched a three-run home run, along with Amed Rosario and Mookie Betts going deep.
The win was over Padres lefthander Rich Hill, who made his first start with his new team. For the Dodgers, Lance Lynn threw well to pick up a Dodgers win.
The first-place Los Angeles Dodgers will send Julio Urias to the mound. The 26-year-old lefthander from Mexico is 8-6 on the season but has a high 4.69 earned run average. Urias has made 16 starts this season and thrown 86.1 innings.
He has 82 strikeouts. In his last start, he went five innings and allowed three hits and no runs. Urias has been plagued a little by the long ball, allowing 16 on the season.
Dodgers Top Diamondbacks
The tailspin cannot stop for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers just keep winning, and Arizona cannot stop the train. Los Angeles wins this one easily. Take the Dodgers -162 over Arizona on Tuesday.
