The Freeway Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels continues on Saturday night. The Dodgers won 9-1 on Friday night and are road favorites on Saturday with a moneyline of -195, while the Angels have a moneyline of +165. The game also has an over/under of 8.5 runs.
With Friday’s win, the Dodgers have won three in a row and can become the second team to reach 60 wins with a win on Saturday. They are now 12-2 during the month of July and look poised to stay hot heading into the all-star break. The Dodgers not only have the best record in the National League, but they have also built their lead atop the NL West to 9.5 games.
The Angels, on the other hand, have endured a treacherous July after a dreadful June. They are just 2-11 in July, even after winning three of their last four games in June, to create a little positive momentum. They have now fallen 13 games under .500 and are nine games out of a playoff spot.
Lefty Lineage
The Angels will send Jose Suarez to the mound on Saturday night. The lefty has made eight starts and two relief appearances this season, going 1-3 with a 4.79 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. In his last two starts, Suarez has failed to get out of the fifth inning, giving up six runs on seven hits over 8.1 innings across those two starts.
At the same time, the Angels are struggling to get their offense going, especially with Mike Trout sidelined for the past few days. The Angels have scored two runs or less in eight of their 13 games in July, so it’s been a while since the LA lineup was clicking. The likes of Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Jared Walsh, and others are all hitting under .200 over those 13 games.
Unlucky Lefty
The Dodgers will also have a southpaw on the mound Saturday, with Julio Urias getting the start. He’s had some misfortune this season, going 7-6 over 17 starts despite pitching to a 3.01 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Of course, Urias lasted just two innings in his last start, giving up five runs on three hits before getting taken out, although the Dodgers came back to win and have now won in his last five starts.
The Dodgers continue to be one of the most potent offensive teams in baseball, scoring at least four runs in eight straight games. Trea Turner and Mookie Betts are both all-stars, although Freddie Freeman has arguably been the team’s best hitter this season. Over the past week, Freeman has been scorching hot, batting .625 with six extra-base hits in his last six games, with Turner and Will Smith also heating up during that time.
Singing the Blues
While Urias had a rough outing in his last start, that is unlikely to happen again, especially with the way the Angels have been swinging the bats recently. As long as Urias gets back on track, the Dodgers are going to be tough to beat. Bet on the Dodgers to beat the Angels on Sunday, with the Dodgers likely to cover the spread as well.
