The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers met in L.A. for four games last weekend, with the Phillies coming up one strike short of a four-game sweep. It was such a great series that the teams are getting together again this weekend for a three-game series. That series starts Friday in the City of Brotherly Love.
Despite losing last week’s series, ultimately dropping five of six games last week, the Dodgers have responded positively. Los Angeles won the series finale on Sunday and proceeded to sweep the Diamondbacks in a four-game series this week. The Dodgers are now riding a five-game winning streak and sitting atop the NL West.
As for the Phillies, they returned home after a successful West Coast road trip and lost two of three games against the Padres this week. That series has dropped them two games under .500. However, they are second in the NL East, albeit seven games behind the Mets.
Needing a Savior
Philly’s biggest problem is that the team was shut out in both losses to the Padres this week. On paper, the Phillies look like a potent offensive team, but that hasn’t been the case lately, especially with Bryce Harper out of the lineup due to an injury. Rhys Hoskins and Johan Camargo have kept hitting over the last week, but the likes of J.T. Realmuto, Nick Castellanos, and Kyle Schwarber have all hit a huge slump.
It could be up to Ranger Suarez to help get the Phillies going. The lefty is 4-1 with a 3.72 ERA over his first seven starts of the season, with the Phillies going 6-1 in his starts this year. Suarez got the win against the Dodgers last week and has allowed just three runs on eight hits over his last two starts, covering 13 innings.
Winning with Julio
Meanwhile, the Dodgers have their only lefty lined up for Friday night, with Julio Urias set to get the start. In his seven starts, Urias is 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA. However, the Dodgers have only won one of his last four starts, as Urias took the loss against the Phillies last week and has allowed seven earned runs on 19 hits over his last 12 innings.
Of course, the Dodgers have been consistent offensively despite their losing streak last week. Over their last ten games, the Dodgers have averaged 6.8 runs per game. Freddie Freeman has been great all season, but Mookie Betts has caught fire lately to help him out, with Trea Turner also starting to get out.
Dodgers/Phillies Betting Prediction
The Dodgers are road favorites in this game with a moneyline of -150 compared to Philadelphia’s moneyline of +130. There is also an over/under of nine runs.
With Urias struggling in his last couple of starts, the door is open for the Phillies to get their offense back on track after a few rough days. It also helps that Suarez has been Philly’s good-luck charm this season.
However, the Phillies will have to overcome their own offensive woes and try to cool off a hot Los Angeles lineup, making the Dodgers the safe bet in this game.
