Sunday Night Baseball will come to us this week from PETCO Park, where the San Diego Padres will host the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers, using late runs in the game, beat the Padres in the opening game of the series 10-5.
The Padres came from behind and won the second game of the series. The loss for the Dodgers dropped them to 63-46 on the season. For San Diego, they are now 55-56 and trying to make a push for the National League Wildcard.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are small favorites in this game. The Dodgers are listed at -120, while the Padres are even money. The total for this game is 9.5 runs. The run line shows the Dodgers at -1.5 (+130) and the Padres at +1.5 (-155).
Dodgers Hitting Started Hot; Cooled Off
The Los Angeles Dodgers started hot Saturday. The offense got the party started early, with Will Smith crushing his 14th home run of the season. Kike Hernandez kept the offense going in the 2nd inning with an RBI on a sac fly. Freddie Freeman then drove in a run in the fifth inning to put them up 2.
Freeman is putting together a sensational season for Los Angeles. The slugger has a .338 batting average, 29 home runs, and has driven in 77 runs.
Padres Under .500 Season Puzzling
Despite the win Saturday – the San Diego Padres fans have kept thinking all season long they could get hot and reach the postseason. That seems less and less likely as we move into the middle of August. The free fall for San Diego has been puzzling, as they are the only team in Major League Baseball under .500 with a positive run differential.
The Padres are hitting just .240 as a team. San Diego received bad news with they found out their righthander Joe Musgrove is out for three weeks with a shoulder injury.
Sunday Night Baseball Pitching Matchup
Lance Lynn will get the start for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 36-year-old righthander from Indiana was good in his first start with the team. Lynn went seven innings and allowed three runs on five hits. It was his 21st start of the season.
For the San Diego Padres, they will also go with a guy they picked up at the trade deadline. Rich Hill gets the start. Hill is 43 years old and making his 22nd start of the season.
This will be his first start with his new teammates. In his last start with the Pirates, Hill went five innings and allowed two runs.
Lynn Throws Well; Dodgers Win
This is a big game for both teams. The Padres want to keep the momentum going, while Los Angeles would like to stay comfortable. Lance Lynn is back and ready to rock and roll for the Dodgers. He will prove to be a great pick-up for Los Angeles.
The Dodgers win this game and take the first three games in this series. We are going to take the Dodgers -1.5 (+130) over the Padres on Sunday Night Baseball.
