On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburgh, Fla., in game two of their short two-game series. The Dodgers won the first game of the series 7-3 and are 32-17 on the year, while the Rays are 27-18.
Opening Win
Clayton Kershaw improved to 4-0 with the victory on Tuesday. He went 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out eight. The bullpen went 2 2/3, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks and striking out just one. Joc Pederson came in in the seventh inning and went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI. Kike Hernandez went 1 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Corey Seager went 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI. Justin Turner went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Austin Barnes accounted for the final Dodger RBI.
Hunter Wood opened the game for the Rays and went two innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Jalen Beeks came in, and it was not his day. He went 4 2/3, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four. Avisail Garcia went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Guillermo Heredia went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Willy Adames, Austin Meadows, and Tommy Pham recorded an RBI apiece, with all of them coming in succession in the seventh inning.
Pitching Matchup
Rich Hill will get the start for the Dodgers on Wednesday. He is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 4 starts. He has a WHIP of 1.05 and 24 strikeouts in 21 innings. Last year he went 11-5 with a 3.66 ERA. The Dodgers have not seen Stanek in his career. The Dodgers are 7-3 in their last 10 and are 13-11 on the road this season.
Ryne Stanek will ‘open’ the game for the Rays. He is 0-1 with a 3.70 ERA in 19 games this season. He has a 1.07 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings. This will be his 13th start of the year, but it is not your traditional start. He will go one or two innings and then give way to another pitcher. The Rays have struggled of late, going 4-6 in their last 10 and are just 12-11 at home this year.
Prediction Time
The Dodgers are -135. The Dodgers are once again one of the best teams in the major leagues and are favorites to make it to the World Series. They have been scoring a ton of runs, and the pitching has been solid as well. Rich Hill has been good since returning from injury and will keep that going here against a struggling Tampa Bay offense.
The Rays started off as one of the best teams in MLB but have fallen off a little bit. They are still a very solid team, but the Dodgers are on a whole new level right now. Take the Dodgers -135.
