The Edmonton Oilers will take on the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night for the second game of their first-round series. Los Angeles came away with an impressive win in Game 1 as they ended up coming back on the Oilers and winning the game in overtime. The Kings scored three goals in the final period and tied the game 3-3, before winning 4-3 in overtime.
This is a game that Edmonton has to win now. They can’t allow Los Angeles to win both games on their home ice. However, as we’ve seen from Edmonton throughout the past few years, they typically do find ways to lose in the playoffs when many people aren’t expecting it.
The sportsbooks believe that Edmonton is going to be able to come away with the win in this one as they come in as a -215 favorite on the moneyline and +120 on the puck line.
Biggest Game of the Year for Edmonton
It’s tough to say that Edmonton played a bad game on Monday, as they simply just blew it in the third period. If they can find a way to clean up their third-period struggles, they should likely win this series.
However, as we’ve seen throughout the past few years with the Oilers, they do have disappointing postseasons, and that is always something to keep in the back of our minds when betting on them.
At the end of the day, this team still has Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Those two have to come out and be the best players on the ice. Draisaitl was incredible in game 1, finishing with two goals and taking six shots. He put a ton of pressure on Joonas Korpisalo and needs to continue doing so.
McDavid also did what he can, taking five shots. Unfortunately for him, none of them found the back of the net. If Edmonton is going to want to win this series and this game, they’re going to need Connor McDavid to produce at the level that everybody knows he can produce at.
There’s a reason why many believe that he’s arguably a top-five player in NHL history, so he has to come out and play like one.
Can the Kings Steal Both?
The Los Angeles Kings had an interesting regular season. It seems like people are doubting this team just a bit, as they finished with 104 points in the Pacific Division.
Although they did finish five points behind Edmonton, that’s not enough to necessarily say that Edmonton’s the much better team here. The Kings have continued to prove that they can win on the big stage, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them do exactly that once again on Wednesday.
They already showed the ability to grind games out and keep competing when they’re down. If they can find ways to continue doing that on Wednesday, there’s a chance that they could possibly do something similar and steal another one.
Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction
Although this is going to be a tough game to bet, taking the Oilers in any form you would like it doesn’t seem like a bad idea here. The Oilers should be able to find a way to at least win this game outright after a disappointing loss in game one.
