When it comes to both the Bucks and Lakers, their play this year cannot be looked at through an honest lens. Injuries as well as health & safety protocol have kept them both very short-handed. Neither team has had their array of weapons available for very long, so the losses have piled up for both of them, alas. They will meet in Milwaukee on Wednesday night.
As we look at the Lakers, the good news is that LeBron James may return on Friday. Unfortunately, though, that will not be this game, and a tough road contest could be in store. Talen Horton-Tucker and Wayne Ellington finally returned and have given the team a fantastic boost. Their bench depth has been tested, with players missing games left and right.
As for the Bucks, they have been without Khris Middleton for several weeks now. A back issue has kept Brook Lopez out of the lineup for every game since opening night. And then Donte DiVincenzo is yet to make his debut, dealing with last year’s foot injury. They should be very grateful they were able to acquire Grayson Allen, averaging 16 ppg on 45% shooting from three.
The big matchup will be Giannis Antetokounmpo versus Anthony Davis. Whichever of the two is able to have the bigger game will probably get their team a win.
Betting Odds & Lines
The spread for Wednesday night is set at MIL -8. The over/under is sitting at 221.5 points. The LAL line is +260, while MIL is -340.
Lakers Looking for Ninth Win
It has been a very weird year for the Lakers, with inconsistencies in every area. Whether it be health, lineups, or just stats, nothing has been the same for more than a game or two. The clearest and obvious thing here, though, is that Carmelo Anthony has been a hand-in-glove fit. His shooting ability was much needed for them.
They remain without LeBron for this one, but the good news is that they have Anthony Davis ready to come in and dominate, as he has in recent games. He did get ejected against Chicago, though, and will need to make sure to keep his temper and emotions in check. He’ll be responsible for stopping Giannis, after all.
Bucks Looking to Inch Closer to .500
The 6-8 start by the Bucks will mean nothing in a month. These guys are coming off winning the title and have dealt with an endless number of guys being out, having to throw together lineups of players who didn’t even have a chance to play together in training camp or preseason.
Grayson Allen has been a godsend for them, averaging nearly four threes per game and shooting it incredibly well. They have gotten good minutes out of Bobby Portis, while Giannis has clearly worked a lot on his three-point shooting and altered his free-throw routine.
A Bucks win will happen if they can get AD in foul trouble and execute their own game plan well.
Bucks Win!
Sorry Lakers, but MIL will get the win. They will not cover, though.
