At the beginning of the year, the battle of Los Angeles looked like a matchup on paper that would be far more exciting than it is at this point of the season.
The Rams will technically be on the road for this game against the Chargers, and this is one of those games that does not have too much meaning on the overall picture of the league as the year closes.
Los Angeles put on the most dominant display over the Christmas weekend with their drumming of the Denver Broncos in the afternoon. They’ll be fired up and riding that momentum against the Chargers.
The Chargers have clinched a playoff berth for the first time in Justin Herbert’s young career, and saddling up for this game can keep them at the top of the wildcard standings in the AFC.
It comes as no surprise that the Chargers are the favorites in this game over the Rams at -6.5.
Baker Mayfield showing out for a new contract
The state of the Rams and what they are going to do in the off-season is entirely up in the air. Matthew Stafford has found himself with a multitude of injuries throughout his career.
Somehow, the Rams were able to snag Baker Mayfield off waivers, and immediately the match was good between him and the Rams’ offense.
His leadership was perfect for a team in the Rams’ situation, as they do not have any incentive to lose games after trading away their first-round pick.
He now gets the chance to rekindle his career, and he has played his way onto another NFL roster for next season and may even get the chance to be a starter.
Keeping the momentum while heading towards the playoffs
If there is one rule in the NFL, it is always about being careful to not peak at the wrong time. The Chargers have to play this one safe.
Their defense has been the reason the team is finding so much success, but that doesn’t mean they have the wherewithal to finish out the regular season and head into the postseason.
This is a matchup with the Rams that looks like it could be a cakewalk but don’t be too sure.
When the chickens start getting counted before they hatch, that is when trouble enters the building. Herbert needs to find a way to put up some more points this week.
Rams @ Chargers Betting Prediction
Two teams in Los Angeles battling for the crown of the city will probably be the least of concerns for the citizens of Los Angeles.
Both teams have all the reason in the world to keep up a win streak, and this is likely a game that will be close down to the fourth quarter.
Despite recent year’s struggles, the Chargers have found new life this year in closing games. Take them at home to win over the Rams at -6.5 and to continue their hot streak.
