After a commanding victory over the VMI Keydets to open up the 2019 season, Marshall is looking for another big performance against a foe who figures to be much tougher. On both sides of the ball, we saw the Thundering Herd lock and perform well, which they did for all 60 minutes last week. They were even able to get a strong performance from their backup QB, indicative of just how well they played.
The No. 24 Broncos of Boise State, on the other hand, played a close game in the opening week, just able to knock off Florida State by a 36-31 total. That was the kind of tough effort they needed, and now they are looking to climb to 2-0 on the young season. We are only a few weeks away from conference play beginning across the NCAA, so it is important to take care of business outside of it.
The spread for this game features Boise State by 12 points (BSU -12), while the over/under is set at 56.5
Marshall Looking For A 2-0 Start
Isaiah Green helped his team get off to a quick start last week, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter, and adding two more before the half. Green finished 18 of 28 with 234 yards and four touchdowns, with just a single pick. He ran the ball eight times for 46 yards in total. Defensively they were able to lock in pretty early, coming away with four total sacks in the game, five different players each getting a share of the action. When they can spread it out like that, things will be going well.
The running game will be looking to get going early, with Tyler King (10 carries, 75 yards) and Sheldon Evans (seven carries, 56 yards) leading the way. They need all dimensions of the offense to click if they want to win as 12-point underdogs.
Boise State’s Encore
Their defense had a hard time slowing down FSU in the first half last week, but the offense continued to move the ball throughout the game. Freshman Hank Bachmeier finished the day with 407 yards and a touchdown (though he was sacked five times). Robert Mahone ran the ball 24 times for 142 yards. George Holani added an additional 75 yards on 14 carries, as it was all working for them on the offensive side of things. A strong start tonight could ensure them another victory, and an improvement on the season to 2-0.
The defensive line got it done for the Broncos against FSU, coming up with four sacks and two forced fumbles. Taking on a confident Marshall team that won by 39 last week, they have to put the pressure on Isaiah Green early.
