Memphis has struggled over its past few games, something they need to fix as they enter a crucial stretch. In a season with no expectations and a new head coach, they have been playing .500 ball in a conference that was supposed to feature several teams competing for the eight playoff spots.
They are ahead of the likes of several of last year’s playoff teams, but this postseason trip is not going to be gifted. With Portland and New Orleans coming in hot, they will need to do just win.
Los Angeles, on the other hand, is hoping to acclimate Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris Sr., the old Pistons teammates, to their current roster. Morris is likely going to be a starter the rest of the way, and a critical part of their success.
Jackson, if healthy, could add another playmaker off the bench who can also get hot when the team needs him to. It also can’t hurt to have him around as Pat Bev has been struggling to stay healthy this season.
The spread for tonight’s game has the home Clippers favored by 9.5 points. The over/under is set at 233.5.
Grizzlies looking to get it going again
The one thing that is hurting them right now is their depth at small forward. Well, that and the fact that Jaren Jackson Jr. was just lost for two weeks with a recent injury. But the trading of Jae Crowder has pushed Kyle Anderson into the starting lineup, where he is struggling to produce.
Josh Jackson is finally playing for them after a long G-League spell, but he isn’t playing too well. And now, they have to bring Brandon Clarke into the starting lineup, losing their top bench scorer from said role. They will need to do a lot of shuffling, but let’s see how it works.
Ja Morant is likely to claim the rookie of the year award thanks to his playing the whole year and Zion starting very late in January. He is a tremendous athlete, and already serving as a leader in his age 19-20 season.
Clippers looking to keep doing their thing
One of the best offensive teams in the league, these Clippers thrive in most situations. They rank fifth in points scored and can go to Kawhi, PG, Lou Will, or Montrezl Harrell and finish most possessions with points on the board.
Landry Shamet has been playing fantastic ball since getting healthy, proving his worth and place on this roster as a guy who can fill multiple roles. When they acquired him in the Tobias Harris trade last winter, it was clear he’d be big. And Ivica Zubac is playing like a true center this year, perhaps a guy who can make an impact in the postseason this time around.
It is unclear if George or Beverley will play tonight, but they should have the weapons to play great ball either way.
