Both Teams Trying to Build Momentum
Michigan is coming off a 69-62 win at Maryland last Sunday. Ignas Brazdeikis led the way for the Wolverines with 21 points on 6 of 12 shooting to go with 7 rebounds. Zavier Simpson and Jordan Poole each tallied 12 points. Simpson shot 6 of 7 from the field and added 4 rebounds and a team-high 10 assists and Poole shot 4 of 12. Isaiah Livers and Jon Teske each added 11 points. Livers shot 3 of 9 and grabbed 5 rebounds, and Teske shot 5 of 13 with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Michigan State is coming off a 91-76 win over Nebraska on Tuesday. Kenny Goins led the Spartans with 24 points on 8 of 12 shooting to go with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Matt McQuaid tallied 22 points on 6 of 7 shooting to go with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Aaron Henry chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Xavier Tillman added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Goins and Tillman tied for the team lead in boards with 8. Cassius Winston had a quiet day scoring the ball with just 8 points but grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out a team-high 10 assists.
Strong Scorers on Both Sides
Michigan is led by the freshman Brazdeikis in the scoring column as he averages 14.8 points a game. He is followed by Jordan Poole, who scores 12.9 a game, and Charles Matthews who adds 12.8 a game. However, Matthews is questionable for this one Jon Teske leads the Wolverines in rebounds with 6.8 a game to go along with 9.8 points per contest. Zavier Simpson is the leading assist man on the Wolverines with 6.3 a game to go with 9.2 points and 5.1 rebounds. Michigan has been solid on both ends of the floor this season. They are averaging 70.7 points per game but are shooting just 45.1% from the field. The key for Michigan is the defense as they are holding opponents to just 58.3 points a game.
The Michigan State Spartans are led by point guard Cassius Winston, who is averaging 18.8 points a game and is also the leading assister with 7.6 a game, and he grabs 3 rebounds per contest. Nick Ward adds 15.1 points a game, and Joshua Langford tallies 15 a game, but both of these guys are out indefinitely. Matt McQuaid and Xavier Tillman have stepped up as they average 9.3 and 9 points a game, respectively. Kenny Goins is the leading rebounder with 8.9 boards a game. The Spartans are putting up 79.9 points a game on 48.9% shooting and are holding opponents to 66 a game.
Take Michigan State
Michigan State comes in at -4. Both of these teams come in banged up, and Michigan will be out for revenge. However, Michigan St has lost just 1 game at home this season, and I think the home crowd will give them a huge boost on senior day. Michigan St has been explosive offensively while Michigan struggles to score the ball. I think the Spartans will be able to crack the Wolverine defense and will shit down the Michigan offense, with or without Matthews. Take Michigan State -4.
