The Big Ten Championship will take place on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Michigan Wolverines are set to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Michigan is ranked 2nd in College Football behind Georgia, and coming off their monster home win over Ohio State. The Wolverines are 12-0 on the season. Many feel it does not matter if Michigan wins this game or not, they will be in the College Football Playoff regardless.
For Iowa, they are 10-2 on the season. The Hawkeyes won the Big Ten West after losing on the road at Penn State, and at home to Minnesota. Since the loss to the Golden Gophers, the Hawkeyes have won four straight games. Iowa is coming off a 13-10 win on the road at Nebraska on Friday.
The Michigan Wolverines are massive favorites in this game. The Wolverines are -23 over Iowa. The total for this game is 35.5.
Wolverines Look to be National Champion Contenders
The Michigan Wolverines were nearly perfect this season. There was not a game until Week 13 that the Wolverines had to break much of a sweat. In fact, Michigan won their first 9 games by double digits, before 9, 7 and 6 point wins in their last three weeks.
The Wolverines scored 37.6 points per game. That was plenty to help a defense that finished as the best in the nation, giving up just 10.3 points per game. There was just five games this season, where the opponent scored double digits. The Wolverines allowed 24 points in each of the last two games.
On offense, J.J. McCarthy had a great season. The signal caller is 17 yards shy of 2,500 on the season, with 19 touchdowns. Roman Wilson was his top target with 658 yards and 11 touchdowns. Blake Corum will need 24 yards in this game to get to 1,000 on the ground. Corum led College Football with 22 touchdowns.
Ferentz Has Hawkeyes Where He Wants Them
The Iowa Hawkeyes are right where they want to be. A big underdog in a big game. The Hawkeyes lost in Week Four at Penn State, and then fell in the controversial game against Minnesota. Since the loss, the Hawkeyes have won four straight games. During those four games, Iowa allowed just a total of 30 points.
On the offensive side, the Hawkeyes rank near the bottom in most categories. Iowa scored just 18 points per game, but allowed just 12.2. Running back Leshon Williams has been fine, with nearly 800 yards, but has just one touchdown all season.
Iowa won the Big Ten West with their 7-2 conference mark, ahead of Northwestern and Wisconsin, who went 5-4.
Michigan Wins Big Ten Title; Iowa Covers Large Spread
This is an interesting point spread and total. Oddsmakers are literally expecting almost no offense from the Iowa Hawkeyes. A 28-6 game would mean Iowa covers the large spread, and the under is in play. 31-7 brings the bet to the Wolverines, and forces the game to go OVER.
Michigan can move the ball, and score, but also can run clock and run the football. Look for Iowa to complete here. But, they are not going to win. If we have to make a bet, we are taking Michigan to keep this under three touchdowns. The final score prediction for this game is the Michigan Wolverines 27-10 over the Iowa Hawkeyes. Take Iowa and the points and the OVER!
