All of a sudden, the best team in the NBA has been unable to defeat any teams they are facing. And worse yet, they just allowed the Suns to score 140 points and defeat them. They may be a little short-handed, but a team is not allowed to make excuses when they begin a season 51-8.
They have dropped three out of five as they have endured their worst stretch of the season. It has been another magnificent year with Mike Budenholzer, but they have their work cut out for them tonight.
Just like their opponents, the Nuggets are coming off a disappointing loss. On the road in Cleveland on Saturday, they could not close the Cavs out and ultimately fell in a close game. While that is a great win for their opponents, it is looked at as an extreme disappointment that they could not get it done.
They are losing their grip on the third seed and are now in danger of falling behind Utah and potentially even losing home-court advantage for what will likely be a very difficult opening series.
Denver is a 3.5-point favorite on their home floor in Colorado. Their moneyline is -162, while it’s at +138 for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee looking to snap out of it
They will be trying to get back into the win column with the reigning league MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, unable to suit up for them. A knee injury was announced yesterday, and it was stated he would be unable to go at all this week. He is not a replaceable player when you consider all that he is capable of on both ends of the floor.
So, the burden will now lie completely on Khris Middleton, who they will need to perform at the All-Star level that he has during each of the past two years. They have plenty of players who can step up as role players, but as stars is a different story.
They could use both Eric Bledsoe and Brook Lopez tonight, as they will have to break their matchups down. Don’t sleep on Lopez as a defender on Jokic, as he has been great on that end all season.
Denver looking to rediscover their mojo at home
With poor play against the Hornets, Warriors and Cavs last week, Denver will have to be hoping for better things. Nothing is going according to plan for them right now, and rookie Michael Porter Jr.’s role has been significantly reduced.
He was showing earlier in the year that he has star potential, but now he hardly sees the floor in Mike Malone’s rotation. He logged 16 minutes off the bench in their last outing. They’ll need him and Monte Morris to bring the energy to the second unit.
Look for a big Nikola Jokic bounce back after he had a triple-single against Cleveland (8-8-8).
Milwaukee picks up narrow victory
Another loss for the Nuggets, this time at home with the altitude. Middleton will score 30 to lift the Bucks.
