The Seattle Mariners will host the Boston Red Sox for a four game series beginning Thursday night at Safeco Field. This is a potential playoff preview as both teams would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. There should be a ton of runs scored in this series, especially in the series opener.
The Mariners are trying to hold off the Houston Astros in the American League West division race. Boston is currently in a tight battle with their rival, the New York Yankees for the top spot in the American League East. The Seattle Mariners are +122 against the Boston Red Sox in the series opener on Thursday.

J.D. Martinez Powers Red Sox
The Red Sox have scored the most runs in baseball this season, and J.D. Martinez is a big reason why. Martinez leads the American League with 54 runs batted in, and his 21 home runs ranks as the second best mark so far this season. Martinez appears to be a lock for the All Star game that will take place next month.
David Price will start for the Red Sox in the series opener, and has had an up and down season. The veteran left hander has won his last five decisions, after losing the previous three. Price is 7-4 with a respectable 4.00 ERA for the Red Sox. Price will look to try to shut down the red hot Mariners offense.
Mariners Surprising MLB
The Seattle Mariners, along with the Atlanta Braves, are the surprise team of the 2018 Major League baseball season. The Houston Astros were the heavy favorites to repeat as AL West Champions, but the Mariners appear to be in the race for the long haul. Seattle is 8-2 in their last 10 games and have taken over 1st place in the division.
The Mariners offense is led by Mitch Haniger and Jean Segura. Haniger leads the team in both home runs (15) and runs batted in (50). Jean Segura leads the team in both batting average and on base percentage, and his .342 batting average ranks second in the American League. The Mariners will need to score a bunch of runs to keep up with the relentless Red Sox offense.
King Felix Delivers Win for Mariners
The Red Sox are atop the American League in large part to their offense, but their pitching staff is one of the best in baseball as well. The Red Sox pitchers have a combined 3.46 ERA in 2018, which is the 4th best in baseball. Boston does a lot of things really well, but must find a way to slow down the hottest team in baseball in Seattle.
Felix Hernandez will start for the Mariners in the series opener. King Felix is no longer the ace of the Mariners staff, but is still a very good pitcher with excellent stuff. Seattle will try to provide Hernandez with enough run support to get past the Red Sox. Look for King Felix to guide the Mariners to a win on Thursday night. Bet the Mariners +122 against the Red Sox.
