The Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks will wrap up a brief two-game interleague series on Wednesday night in Arlington, Texas. The Diamondbacks won the series opener by a score of 9-2 and will be looking for the sweep in this game. Texas can’t afford to lose any more home games as they try to play their way into the American League playoffs.
Arizona improved to 48-47 with the win on Tuesday night, but the Diamondbacks are buried in the NL West race. The Diamondbacks sit in second place but are still 14 games out of first place behind the outstanding Los Angeles Dodgers. Texas slipped to 50-45 on the season with the series-opening loss but are still in the playoff race. The Rangers are just three games out of the second Wild Card spot in the American League. The Arizona Diamondbacks are -120 over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.
Marte Leading Diamondbacks Offense
The Diamondbacks were searching for a new offensive star after trading away Paul Goldschmidt this summer, and they found a worthy replacement on their roster. Second baseman Ketel Marte was voted as an All-Star starter in the National League this season after a monster first half of the season. Marte is leading the Diamondbacks with 115 hits, 21 home runs, and a .312 batting average. Eduardo Escobar has been a nice addition as well and leads the team with 70 runs batted in.
Left-hander Robbie Ray will be on the mound in this game, and he has been pitching great for the Diamondbacks of late. The veteran left-hander has won each of his last two starts and has been pretty dominant in both of them. Ray is just 7-6 on the season but sports a very respectable 3.81 earned run average. Arizona is starting to make a run at the right time of the season.
Veteran Chavez Makes Start For Texas
The Texas Rangers will turn to Jesse Chavez for the start on Wednesday night. Chavez will be making just his ninth start of the season in this game after spending much of the season as a reliever. The veteran is 3-4 with a 3.84 earned run average this season and has been pitching well of late. Texas needs a solid outing from Chavez to save their tired bullpen.
The Rangers are hitting just .252 on the season as a team, but they can slug with the best of them. Texas has hit 134 long balls this season, and they play in a hitter’s park. Joey Gallo leads the team with 22 home runs this season, and Nomar Mazara has driven in a team-high 51 runs. Texas will need more than two runs to win this game.
Diamondbacks Complete Two-Game Sweep
Texas has been great at home this season, but they just aren’t playing good baseball at the moment. The pitching matchup favors the Diamondbacks in this game as well, and they are going to come out with another win. Bet the Arizona Diamondbacks -120 over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.
