The San Francisco Giants are hosting the Colorado Rockies this week for a series at AT&T Park. Wednesday’s game features a terrific pitching matchup, and runs should be at a premium. Both of these teams are trying to keep pace with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.
The San Francisco Giants made a ton of moves this offseason in an effort to improve their ballclub, and many people believed they were a playoff team this season. The Rockies have a very talented offensive lineup, but are always looking to try to improve their pitching staff. The San Francisco Giants are -152 over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night.

Giants Must Find Offense
The San Francisco Giants rank just 20th in Major League Baseball in total runs scored this season, and their offense has held them back in a big way. The two players who have continued to produce for the Giants are Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford. Brandon Belt leads San Francisco in the power department, while Brandon Crawford leads the team in hits and batting average. The Giants need more production from their entire lineup, but these two veterans are doing their best to keep the team afloat.
Giants ace, Madison Bumgarner, will be making the start on Wednesday night. The ultra competitive Bumgarner has struggled through injuries this season, but is looking to get his season back on track. The veteran lefty will be making just his fifth start of the season, but could pitch the Giants back into the playoff race.
Arenado Playing Like MVP for Rockies
The Colorado Rockies have struggled in 2018, but Nolan Arenado continues to play at an extremely high level. Arenado ranks in the top five in the National League in batting average, hitting at a .318 clip. The All-Star third baseman has also blasted 18 home runs to lead the Rockies. Arenado would be on the short list of MVP candidates if the vote was taken today.
The Rockies will send young Kyle Freeland to the mound on Wednesday night to oppose Bumgarner. The young lefthander is 7-6 with a very respectable 3.55 ERA so far in 2018. Freeland has defeated the Giants in both of his starts against them this season.
Bumgarner, Giants Defeat Rockies
The Colorado Rockies seemed poised to compete in the National League West this season, but are currently under the .500 mark. The Rockies have done a decent job on offense, but rank second to last in team ERA. Nolan Arenado continues to show that he is one of the best players in baseball, but he needs some help.
Madison Bumgarner needs to stay healthy if the Giants are going to have any chance of competing for a playoff spot in 2018. The Giants have struggled to score runs all season, but have a roster full of proven veterans. Look for Bumgarner and the Giants to dominate the Rockies on Wednesday night.
