Week 9 of the College Football season wrapped up on Saturday night. There were a few of the Associated Press Top 25 teams that got beat. There were some great results as well.
Let’s recap some of the best games of Week 9.
Kansas Jayhawks 38-33 over Oklahoma Sooners
A huge game out of the Big 12 – saw the Kansas Jayhawks pick up a massive home win over the Oklahoma Sooners. Kansas trailed late but was able to score in the final minute of the game and then held off the charging Sooners to win the game. Kansas moved to 6-2 with the win, while it was the first loss of the season for the Sooners.
Oklahoma still sits in a tie for the top of the conference standings, which could mean an eventual rematch against Texas in the Big 12 title game.
Louisville Cardinals 23-0 over Duke Blue Devils
The Louisville Cardinals were impressive with a 23-0 win over the Duke Devils. Louisville scored two first-quarter touchdowns and did not look back.
The Cardinals’ defense was impressive shutting out Duke in the game. The win for Louisville pushed them to 7-1 on the season and likely back into the Top 15. The loss for Duke kept them reeling a little bit, as they have now dropped back-to-back games and are 5-3 on the season.
Oregon Ducks 35-6 over Utah Utes
Dan Lanning and his Oregon Ducks were the most impressive winners on Saturday, as they went to Salt Lake City and blasted the Utah Utes. Oregon used 248 passing yards and two touchdowns from Bo Nix in the game, along with 83 rushing yards from Bucky Irving.
Oregon continues to impress, and with their one loss trying to get up a rematch against Washington in the Pac-12 title game.
USC Trojans 50-49 over California Golden Bears
They avoided a third straight loss, but it was not pretty for the USC Trojans. USC got a stop on the two-point conversion in the final minute of the game to win the game 50-49 over California. The win for the Trojans pushed them to 6-2 on the season.
Caleb Williams finished the game with 369 yards and two touchdowns on the game. Marshawn Lloyd was also impressive for the Trojans, with 115 yards and two scores in the game as well.
Georgia Bulldogs 43-20 over Florida Gators
The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs smoked the Florida Gators on Saturday. After Florida scored the first touchdown of the game, the Bulldogs scored the next 36 points and made the game a laugher.
The Bulldogs eventually won the game 43-20. The Bulldogs are now 8-0 on the season, while Florida dropped to 5-3 on the season.
Georgia Tech 46-42 over North Carolina Tar Heels
For the second straight week, the Tar Heels of North Carolina fell again. This time to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The win for Georgia Tech moved them to 4-4 and a step closer to grabbing a bowl game.
The Tar Heels, after six straight wins, could not get the job done. It was an odd game, where the Yellow Jackets did not score in the first or third quarter but 24 in the second and 22 in the fourth. Georgia Tech rushed for more than 350 yards in the game.
Arizona Wildcats 27-24 over Oregon State Beavers
One of the most pesky teams in all of College Football – the Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats picked up another upset win, this time over the Oregon State Beavers.
The win for Arizona moved them to 5-3 and one win away from becoming bowl eligible. Oregon State’s DJ Uiagalelei threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns and did not turn the ball over, but it was not enough.
Week 10 Look Ahead
Some of the best Week 10 games start with a Thursday Night Football game in the Atlantic Coast Conference with Wake Forest at Duke. When we get to Saturday, some of the best games include:
Kansas State Wildcats at the Texas Longhorns. Kansas State is 6-2 on the season and threatening in the Big 12 standings. Kansas State has won three straight games.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to stay hot after their blowout win over Pittsburgh and take on Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers.
The Oklahoma Sooners are at the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Florida State goes to Pittsburgh, the Missouri Tigers will look to be the first to beat Georgia on the road in Athens, Washington is at USC, Purdue travels to Michigan, the LSU Tigers are at the Alabama Crimson Tide, and UCLA goes to Arizona to battle the Wildcats.
