It’ll be a fun game in LA on Thursday as the surging Pats come in to face the Rams. With wins over Baltimore and Arizona recently, they have proven their toughness once again. Belichick teams are always competitive and a tough out, this year being no different.
Cam Newton only has five TD passes, but he has been running the ball incredibly well. Their entire rushing attack has been carrying them what a draft find last year in Damien Harris. He and Sony Michel will continue to pound the football, with both of them finally in the lineup together. The receiving game still leaves a lot to be desired, but wins are wins, after all.
LA is coming off a victory in their last game and will be looking to do it again. They have moved into a tie with the Seahawks atop the NFC West, in a division that has been full of surprises. It has been fun to see Jared Goff get back to the guy he was when he took this squad to the Super Bowl two years ago.
ODDS:
The spread for Thursday night favors the Rams by 5.5 points. This comes as a surprise.
Pats Look to Move over .500
After a quick start to the year, it seemed big things were in store for the Pats. Cam Newton looked to be back to the MVP quarterback he was just five years ago and Julian Edelman was catching every pass coming his way. The passing game has mostly dissipated, and Julian has hardly played due to injury. Damien Harris can be credited with revitalizing the offense. Cam has been running it well, yes, but Harris has been reliable as an RB1. He just takes the handoffs and makes something positive out of nearly every carry. With Sony Michel healthy, they may now have a 1-2 punch. New England’s defense will determine if this is a win or loss. Look for JC Jackson to come up with yet another interception. And look for Stephon Gilmore to shut down Robert Woods.
LA Looking For Ninth Win
This is not only a big game for the Pats, but for the Rams too. A victory here would go a long way toward securing their place in the NFC Playoff picture. They should get in, barring a collapse, but the higher their seed, the better. They are still within reach of the Seahawks. With Todd Gurley now in Atlanta, LA has run the ball by committee this year. Malcolm Brown, Cam Akers, and Darrell Henderson Jr. have been splitting the carries, all of them providing fresh legs at different stretches. And it’s worked. Aaron Donald isn’t putting up big numbers, but all the attention he is drawing is allowing other guys to rush the QB and stuff running backs. Their key to victory is their run D this week.
Game Comes Down to the Wire
The game will be determined on the final possession, with the Patriots getting a key stop to pick up yet another win. They MIGHT make the playoffs!
