The New Jersey Devils will travel to Carolina on Wednesday to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the first game of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. New Jersey played excellent hockey against the New York Rangers and ended up winning that series in seven games.
They did so after a dominating win in Game 7. Carolina, on the other hand, is looking to win a Stanley Cup this season, and if their first round indicated anything, it’s that they can get the job done. They beat the Islanders in six games and did so in commanding fashion after a 4-2 series victory.
Carolina is currently favored to win game 1 as they come in at -120 on the moneyline and +220 on the puck line. The over/under is slotted at just 5.5.
In terms of the series, the Devils are currently favored to win the series at -130. If they were to win this game, we could see a major jump in these odds.
Will Carolina Protect Home Ice?
In terms of points, the Carolina Hurricanes are the best team remaining in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Boston Bruins finished with the most points in the NHL this season but ended up losing in the first round to the Florida Panthers.
Now, the Hurricanes are the best team remaining in terms of what they were able to do in the regular season and that’s interesting to think about. The reason for bringing this up is that they only have the fourth-highest odds to win the Stanley Cup this season, even trailing the New Jersey Devils.
It’s not going to be an easy task for them to get the job done, but as we saw in their first-round win against the Islanders, Carolina is one of the best teams in hockey and that’s going to stay true. They’ve proven that year in and year out and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them get the job done again.
New Jersey Will Look to Continue Playing Well on The Road
The New Jersey Devils shocked the New York Rangers in the first round, as the Rangers were expected to win that series. They were down 2-0 and then headed to Madison Square Garden and found a way to win the next two games. After that, the series was as good as over as the Devils won game 5 and then won game 7.
Their ability to win at Madison Square Garden was something impressive and proves that they’re not going to be worried about going into the PNC Arena and taking care of business against Carolina.
If they come out and play the same way that they did against the Rangers, this is a series that they have a legitimate chance of dominating. Not only can they win this series, but they can certainly find a way to win the entire thing.
New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes Game 1 Betting Preview Prediction
Due to game one being played in Carolina, taking the Hurricanes doesn’t seem like a bad idea here. The Hurricanes are currently – 120 on the money line to win the game, so it’s certainly something to keep in the back of our minds. If you think Carolina can win this game, there is some value in them on Wednesday night.
