Very rarely will a No. 10 seed versus the top team in the conference be something that is must-see. But here we are. These Pelicans have been playing very well of late, and everybody is locked in, and more importantly, healthy.
Derrick Favors is holding down the starting center spot with Nicolo Melli and Jaxson Hayes giving them good minutes off the bench. Zion Williamson is playing some tremendous basketball and really looks nothing like a rookie. Alvin Gentry has really turned this team around following a slow start.
Los Angeles, on the other hand, is lacking in problems with its 43-12 record. The team has been unable to lose many games, despite the struggles of several starting guards. KCP has been playing well for them off the bench along with Alex Caruso, but Danny Green and Avery Bradley cannot seem to make any shots from the floor.
This should not be too big an issue for them down the road with their depth, but it has got to be at least a little better now. It has to be.
The spread for Tuesday night’s primetime showdown favors the Lakers by eight. The over/under is set at 240.5.
Pelicans looking to make a statement
They have had their ups and downs, but with Memphis struggling and injured, this is their best chance to move closer to the #8 seed. With 25 games still to play, their chance is very much there. With Zion scoring 20+ every night and Jrue Holiday dominating on both ends, they can take any team on a given night.
Brandon Ingram has been cold of late, but he has time to turn his game around with his supporting cast playing like they are. JJ Redick has not missed the playoffs in his long NBA career, so he has the most at stake for this team. Also, don’t forget about Lonzo and Favors.
The bench has been playing well for them of late, and they’ll be a key tonight. Zion is going to have to deal with AD, his first big NBA test. And they will need to play big at all times.
Lakers looking to stay hot
They have been bested just 12 times in 55 games, proving how dominant they are. And for LeBron, last year was a blessing in disguise. Nobody wants to see any injuries, especially to one of the best of all-time. But having a lesser workload and playing on a team struggling to win has refreshed him for 2019-20.
He has been serving as the point guard for the team, averaging nearly 11 assists per game. He is looking as good as he ever has, and AD is dominating alongside him.
JaVale and Dwight have both been playing some stellar ball at the center spot, helping them with having the best big-man duos in the league.
Lakers win a tight one at home
New Orleans will make it tough, but the Lakers will emerge with a win.
