As the final two weeks of the NBA regular season unfold, the Tuesday night slate brings a matchup between two Western Conference teams who are fighting to remain in the playoff picture when the Golden State Warriors host the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Warriors have experienced their fair share of struggles this season, including an abysmal road record which is worse than any other team that is currently in contention.
This was supposed to be a year for the Pelicans to take the final leap towards being a true contender, though it has again been marred by the injuries to Zion Williamson and the rest of their roster at the beginning of the year.
Seeing both teams in action will help give a better idea of where they stand in the final 5-8 games left in the season. The Warriors are favored at home over the Pelicans at -9.
Can the Pelicans franchise succeed with Williamson in charge?
Two straight years the Pelicans have given us an extremely talented roster and two straight years Zion Williamson has yet to be a part of the final push towards the playoffs.
His injury luck at this point has to be concerning, and he has so much left to figure out as a player. The unfortunate thing is that he is dominant when he has the ability to take the floor against any opponent.
Their roster is dependent on him being present in the lineup, which we were able to learn this year as they have been unable to make headway since his injury early in the year.
The rest of the team has talent, but this is going to be an uphill battle in Golden State as the Warriors have been putting together a strong stretch of games.
Title defense: are the Warriors taking it seriously?
Most Golden State fans would likely blame their woes on the games that Steph Curry has missed so far this season, but many teams have been without stars for extended periods of time.
The rest of the roster, especially some of the young bench players, has been unable to step up and make the difference anyone was expecting them to.
With such a terrible road record this season, the Warriors are harder to believe in as a true contender and they continue to flip the switch in some games.
The good news is they matchup well with the Pelicans and should be able to get a hot start in this game on their home court.
Pelicans @ Warriors Betting Prediction
Two teams that we thought would be at the top of the Western Conference in the beginning of the season are near the middle of the pack, jumbled up with everyone else.
This game on Tuesday night will be telling as the Pelicans have their backs against the wall and the Warriors fight to remain out of the play-in.
With the Warriors being great at home this season, they will get the job done and win over the Pelicans at -9.
