The Giants are set to take on the Cowboys in Dallas today as NFL Week 5 continues. Both of these teams are off to forgettable starts, but the good news is that they both can’t lose this week. The NFC East has been the worst division in the league through four weeks.
Dallas’ only win this year was a complete anomaly. Atlanta blew a game where they had a 99.9% chance of winning, up 15 points with about two minutes left. On the other hand, the Giants have not seen a single thing go right for them in Daniel Jones’ first full year as a starter. They have taken losses in each of the first four games and lost star running back Saquon Barkley for the season in Week 2.
Both teams are itching for a win. The Cowboys are nine-point favorites today, with the over/under set at 53. Kickoff is at 4:25 P.M. Eastern on FOX.
Giants Aiming for Their First Win
It’s been a tough start for the Giants under first-year head coach Joe Judge, but another Sunday means another chance to right the previous week’s wrongs and finally pick one up. Giants’ offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will have a homecoming of sorts, as he coaches against his former team.
It’s evident in the early-going that Garrett is missed in Dallas; the results are not looking too good. However, the Cowboys do have a quarterback slinging the ball as well as any other in the league, which the Giants do not. Daniel Jones has fallen into a bit of a slump, and they’ll need a big start from him this week.
Giants safeties Jabrill Peppers and Adrian Colbert are both listed as “Questionable” on the injury report, as is linebacker Kyler Fackrell. Wide receiver Sterling Shepard is still on injured reserve, and tackle Nate Solder has been ruled out.
Cowboys Aiming To Get to 2-3
Despite their record, Dak Prescott has been fantastic all year. The Cowboys’ injuries have played a large part in their inability to come away with wins, not the quarterback performance.
They have a good shot at the win this week, and at home in front of a small number of fans, Dallas looks to deliver. They’ve had some fantastic showdowns with the Giants over the years, so perhaps another exciting duel is in store for the fans.
Prescott nearly led the Cowboys back from a 30+ point deficit against Cleveland last week, but Odell Beckham Jr.’s late score proved to be too much to overcome. Dallas’ offense hasn’t been an issue, but the defense has come up short, repeatedly.
Ezekiel Elliott will need to dominate the ground game this week, and the Cowboys great wide receivers will need to continue to tear up the opposing secondaries. In 2019, Amari Cooper had 549 more receiving yards at home than on the road. While we’re only to Week 5, the trend is continuing in 2020.
The Cowboys will be without Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith for the rest of the year. Four Cowboys linemen are on injured reserve.
Giants Keep It Surprisingly Close
This game will be a lot closer than expected. Expect Jason Garrett’s play-calling to be much better in his return to Dallas. While Dallas’ defense will leave the door open for the Giants, expect a field day from the Cowboys’ offense.
