The battle of New York City takes center stage in the borough of Brooklyn. The New York Knicks visit the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. ET Wednesday at the Barclays Center. The Knicks are off to a 5-5 start, while the Nets have struggled to a 4-7 slog.
The Nets are favored by 2.5 points with an over/under of 223 points. However, it is fairly even on the moneyline at Knicks +120 and Nets -140.
The Knicks are 5-5 against the spread and 6-4 on over/unders this season while sporting a 2-3 road record straight up.
The Nets are 3-7-1 against the spread and 4-7 on over/unders this season. They are 2-4 straight up at home.
New York seeks city reclaim
The Knicks look to overcome a seven-game losing streak in the series. Their last win was before COVID-19 struck when they claimed a 110-97 victory on Jan. 26, 2020.
This year’s Knicks are getting it done offensively. They rank 10th in scoring 115 points per game, though highly inefficient.
They are 20th in converting 46.3% of shots and 22nd in 33.9% of 3-pointers. They are, however, the second-best rebounding team at 48.8 per contest while surrendering 46.7 per game (25th).
Defensively, they are 22nd in giving up 115 points per game. However, they are second at limiting teams to 43.5% from the floor and 10th in forcing opponents to a 34.5% conversion rate on 3-pointers.
Brooklyn hopes to sort out struggles
The Nets remain without T.J. Warren, who is dealing with a foot injury and Kyrie Irving remains suspended after making anti-Semitic remarks. It was the latest in a bizarre set of news to start the season with Steve Nash being fired.
On the court, the Nets haven’t fared any better. They are 20th in scoring 110.5 points per game, seventh in offensive efficiency at 47.6%, and 18th at converting 35.1% of 3-pointers.
Defensively they are 12th while allowing 111.5 points per game and are seventh at holding teams to 45% from the field. However, they are second worst in allowing opponents to make 38.9% of 3-pointers.
They also have the second-worst rebounding rate at 39.5 per game and are 23rd in allowing 45.1 per contest.
Knicks/Nets Betting Prediction
Despite the Nets having won seven straight in the series – in which the over is 5-2 during that span – the Knicks are 14-5 against the spread in the last 19 meetings. They also are 20-8-1 against the spread in the last 29 meetings in Brooklyn.
Now this game could go either way. While 62% of public bets are on the Nets, the Knicks have been the better team, with Jalen Brunson playing well, R.J. Barrett continuing to develop, and Julius Randle looking back on track. And the Nets, while Kevin Durant will be the best player on the court, don’t have much talent surrounding him.
We’ll take the Knicks to cover +2.5 and the moneyline.
