The NBA season is going downhill fast for the New York Knicks. With a 24-31 record and on a six-game losing skid, they head to California to face the Warriors. This is an unfortunate situation for the Knicks, who have to try and stop the Warriors shooters.
They were just brutally mauled by Denver, and it looks like another loss is on the horizon. Can anyone save the NY Knicks?
The Golden State Warriors are coming off an uncharacteristic loss of their own. In their last game, they faced the Utah Jazz and lost 111-85. It’s strange for such a strong offense to be outscored so easily, but that’s the NBA.
There are a few players sidelined on both teams, which could make this a closer contest. Let’s look at each squad and come up with the best pick here.
New York Knicks: In danger of losing seven straight
The losses the Knicks have suffered could be attributed to a few things. For starters, they have a heavily injured roster that includes RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson. These players aren’t “out,” but they’re definitely dealing with these injuries on a daily basis.
Still, that’s no excuse to allow the Nuggets to score 132 points in their last game. Something must be done about this.
Today, they face off against an offense that averages over 110 points per game. The Knicks, on the other hand, rank 27th in the NBA, averaging 104.55 points per game.
We’ve seen how poorly their defense can perform, especially in their last game. If they allow Golden State to get those kinds of looks, the Knicks can mark this game down as a loss. So, what about the Warriors?
Golden State Warriors: One loss won’t slow down Golden State
The Warriors are second in the Western Conference, following closely behind the Phoenix Suns. Just as the Knicks are dealing with injuries, the Warriors are banged up too. Up until their last game against the Jazz, this wasn’t much of a problem.
Klay Thompson, James Wiseman, and Andre Iguodala are all listed as “out” for this game. How much of a problem will that be tonight?
With Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins still in play, we say not a problem at all. Both Curry and Wiggins have led the team to victory before.
The real question is whether or not they can cover the 10-point spread tonight. The Warriors defense is ranked No.2 in the NBA, allowing only 102.75 points per game. With the injuries to the Knicks lineup, the Warriors should cover easily.
New York Knicks at Golden State Warriors Betting Pick
The Knicks are 25-30 against the spread this season with a 12-15 ATS road record. This team doesn’t inspire much confidence on the court or at the sportsbook.
Instead, it’s smarter to go with the team the Knicks are 2-8 against, the Golden State Warriors. The last time the Knicks beat the Warriors was in January of 2021. The Warriors are the much better pick here.
Golden State has a fairly impressive 29-22-4 record against the spread this season. At home, they’re 17-10-2, which isn’t bad either. New York has gone 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games, making them untrustworthy.
Sure, the 10-point spread is a lot, but we saw how much the Denver Nuggets beat the Knicks by.
